Surely he has read that. I think everyone has.

I loved it. It kept me glued to my desk chair for hours and hours.

My copy is still sitting on the shelf waiting to be opened.

I just got the Philip K Dick Reader which is a book of his short stories, most of which became major movies. Like Total Recal, Screamers, Paycheck, Minority Report and several others. Of course some of the titles of the stories are different than the movies so I'm not sure what other movies were based on his work.

I just read the very short story called Fair Game in which a nuclear physicist who is the oldest and smartest in his field suddenly see a giant eye looking at him through his living room window. Then it withdraws and disappears. He tells his collegues about it but they don't know what to make of it. One professor suggests beings from another universe or dimension.

After telling them he thinks "They" are after him and he runs outside where he sees something like an etherical net-like thing in the sky and the entire face of some being. He drives off for the whole night. The whole way he keeps seeing things that are set up to try to lure him. Like a bar of gold, a diner with good smelling food. These things aren't really there though.

Then the net appears again and it snatches him up and he takes off into the sky. He thinks it's all great because they want such a knowlegable man such as him. He thinks they want to collaborate and share knowlege but when the heavens part and he sees the beings he hears them comment on the great catch they've got and how he put up a good fight. Then he sees something under him that is made of metal and is flat. It looks like a frying pan. The end.

I've been waiting for over two weeks for a new book and the library still hasn't called. If I have to go another week, I'll probably go dig up that old medical encyclopedia. I'm sure that'll keep my attention for a while.

We went to Cadiz, KY and checked out some antique shops and flea markets. I bought three books. The Edward Cayce Primer, Starship Troopers and Johnny Got His Gun. I read that last one and found it very good and very very very disturbing.

If your a big fan of Project Gutenberg, I found a page at http://www.gutenberg.org/cdproject/ that allows you to download an iso image of a cd or dvd via bit torrent a copy of 600 to 9400 ebooks.

Quote "The DVD. About 9400 eBooks from December 2003 and prior. We have heard numerous reports of the DVD ISO file not arriving intact, especially using cable modems and DSL lines. In order to ensure an error-free download, we suggest using Bit Torrent, as described below. You might also consider downloading in parts, as described in the readme.txt file. To download the file via FTP, read about how to get it in separate parts, and see various checksums, visit http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/10802, which will let you select a mirror site or navigate directly to the DVD download directory on gutenberg.org.
The CD. The August 2003 "Best of Gutenberg" CD contains over 600 eBooks. (Prior versions are also available.) We again advise you download with Bit Torrent when possible, as described below. To download the file via ftp, read about how to get it in separate parts, and see various checksums, visit http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/11220, which will let you select a mirror site or navigate directly to the CD download directory "

A few nights ago I found out Project Gutenberg has an iso out dated july 2006 called "pgdvd072006.iso"

They talk about it at http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/19159

Maybe Kris will post a link to the bit torrent link for Gweep and others that may be interested.

If you want the 2006 iso, go to http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/19159
and you can find it there. I believe it sports over 17,000 titles in 20 languages

I couldn't find the torrent of it on that page which is why I posted the direct link to the torrent. That one has the updated 2006. Which if you go to http://snowy.arsc.alaska.edu:6969/ you'll get other dvds you can download via torrent.

I just like torrent better as I haven't gotten any errors which can happen when you download big files and have it all mess up. So the file blocks were 256Kb, so that worked out very nice.
