I had a good time with this type of thread at "The Other Place", that I decided to make a thread about the books here, even if I am the only one interested. This thread may contain spoilers and such.

Anyway, the title for Book 6 is officially "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". The hyphen is official. Also, now that many have let their imaginations run wild with all kinds of specualtion, J.K. Rowling released a few sentences from her book. It was released at her site J.K. Rowling.com. The sentences are:

He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.

JKR herself has said that the half-blood prince is neither Harry, Voldemort (young and old). There also has been no date set for the release of Book 6. It is however half done, so I am thinking sometime next year.

Could it be Harry's Dad that escaped the Bad weather that the bad guy thought did it's job? As that could explain the limp

The books are much better. They leave way too much out of the movies. The movies are very enjoyable though. I like them too.

I told my niece that the date was to be announced today. I told her, if she's lucky it will be out by her birthday. Her birthday is August 19. I'll be preordering 2 books.

It's already a bestseller:
#1 at Barnes & Noble

#2 at Amazon (will probably be #1 shortly)

I can't wait to get the book! I wonder how long it will be? Each book gets considerably thicker.

Yeah, it took me less than a day to read "Order of the Phoenix". It would have taken me less time if I hadn't had to work that day.

Since I quit smoking, I find it harder to read books as I used to be able to focus more when I smoked and could burn through a good book in 2-3 days as I used to read 2 or more at once when I would read If I got bored I would bookmark the page and start on another book then come back to the other one later

It's the smoking as my doctor said most schizophrenics somehow focus more when they smoke for some reason. I tend to agree as after I quit my concentration and focus when all down hill and I can hardly read a book.

That kind of stuff happens all the time Joseph. Look at the number of adults who still let their kids go to neverland alone without supervision even after all the media attention he got from the first trial.

People usally do not think straight when infatuated with stars or are a fan of some star.

Even if you don't agree with the Michael Jackson statement then look at the number of killers on death row who are sitting behind bars who get fan mail and even proposals as well from member of the opposite sex.

Such is the curse for anyone who has alot of folks viewing them at once as their is a fan for almost everyone in the world if you ask me

Two London men allegedly tried to sell book to London tabloids

LONDON - Police have arrested two men suspected of trying to sell stolen copies of the upcoming Harry Potter novel.

A friend of mine just got her copy today, so she hasn't read it yet. Anyway, she was getting dressed and had the news going on in the background. Someone gave away the big spoiler (who dies). The media should wait at least two weeks before letting that out. I assume it was Fox News, because that's the only news she watches.

Cat thinks the death was a trick and you'll find out about it in the next book.

Rawlings has refused to share her plot for the final book with ANYONE, she says basically if she dies or can't write it, tough noogies to all her fans who are left hanging at the end of this latest book (ok, not a quote, my paraphrase...). I think that's a nasty attitude to lay on her fans, but then again I never drank the Potter kool-aid. Everyone in my HOUSE has, though.

I think Cat is wrong. Rowling writes about death the way it should be in a children's book: living things die, sometimes painfully, and they don't ever come back. I hope she doesn't bring any of her dead characters back from beyond when so many small children, who really shouldn't read HP, love the books. It will teach them the wrong concept of death.

More! Wow! Thanks! I may have to expand on this drabble. I know that Nanowrimo is in a few months. I want to try it this year, so maybe I'll use this drabble as inspiration.

I also have another piece of fanfiction on the backburner along with several original short stories that I need to edit and refine.

I love reading fanfics myself. The fun is wading through the bad to find the real gems.

One of our local public libraries called this morning. The boy signed up for the Harry Potter book give-away at the county fair last night and he won a copy.

Lisa and the kids will be picking it up on Saturday when they go back to the fair to work at a concession stand.

Haven't had time. My days have been pretty hectic. I do have a mini sequel in mind, I just have to get it down on paper.

I understand how you feel about updating. One of my favorite fanfic writers who shipped Lupin/Tonks is on hiatus until at least January.

I read a Batman Begins (what us fangirls call) Cranefic and she had updated every day, but the day I added the story to my alerts, she stopped. There's been 1 update in like, 2 weeks. And it's still at a cliffhanger

Just get it up when you have time

Buffalo is good , not greasy , like gweep said very little fat content , but its really beefalo ( half cow half buffalo , alot is bread right here in Kansas ), as real buffalo is hard to come by , indangered species

I love it! Actually, I prefer it over beef. Find a Ted's Montana Grill and get a bison filet (medium rare), with garlic mashed potatoes and a yeast roll.

8. Click the bow on the package and it will open.

Now all we need is a release date. The fandom has pretty much ruled out a July 7, 2007 date, which would have been cool.

The publisher's want it to be a 2007 date. I've looked at the calendar and will make a prediction: September 1, 2007. It's perfect. September 1 is the first day of school at Hogwarts.

Edit: Actually, I'm wrong about the fandom, from reading the forums at Mugglenet, ruling out 7-7-7. I just find it unlikely. Jo has written that she is still writing the book, and I don't think even if she finished now that it wouldn't be edited in time for that date.

Woudln't it be more appropriate if it were Gallows? That's what I thought it was when I first read about this at lunch today.

I'm a little behind. I don't know about the book release date. the next HP movie comes out a week before. I guess we can call July Harry Potter month.

Dan's pics I saw. I ended up having to remind myself he's only 17.

A friend and I are brainstorming on ordering the books. I know I need at least two copies and she wants one, so we figure we are ordering them together.

She usually orders from another place online, but the books have never arrived on the day they are supposed to. Amazon has been much more reliable for me, so she is going that route this time.

This is the first time I've ever pre-ordered. I was wondering if the book would arrive the day of release.

I never even liked the idea of the novels being turned into films. Granted, what I've seen of the movies have been good. It's just that movies are never as good as the book.

I don't really think that she needs to generate more publicity. She's the richest woman in the UK these days, how much more could she need?

Of course they aren't but I enjoy both. If I've read a book that's made into a movie I like to see how well they interpret the book.

I don't think it was. Many fans have wondered since book 7 about his relationship with Grindelwald.

I have an acquaintance that is a huge Harry Potter fan but despises homosexuality. I'm not looking forward to her tirade the next time I see her.

Books are the original idea and movies are always an interpretation of that original. It's happened hundreds of times that the book is better for most people. I know I've felt that way lots of times.

I've yet to read those reviews. I've just been so busy lately.

That said:

Interview with J.K. Rowling at Pottercast.

I can't wait to listen to it.

I feel ripped off. I rented the Order Of The Phoenix and it didn't have the special features disk. Only the movie. Shucks.

I really hate the studios for putting out a one disk version and a two disk. They should just put out the 2 disk one so people don't have to get upset when the accidentally pick up the wrong one.

I'm fishing around to borrow someone's second disk so I can see it. Also I have found a copy of the first two books in town used so I've started those as well. Yeah, I'm way behind the times...

Interesting news here:

http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5hmDwDPt_RkEFxQ_PMv0Cxoahz3iw

JK Rowling has admitted to "weak moments" when she could agree to write another book in the Harry Potter series.

But it is unlikely that young wizard Harry would feature as the main protagonist in an eighth novel, Rowling said, adding: "Let's give it 10 years."

Time magazine has placed Rowling at number three in its Person of the Year list.

Rowling told Time: "There have been times since finishing, weak moments, when I've said: 'Yeah, all right' to the eighth novel.

"If, and it's a big if, I ever write an eighth book about the (wizarding) world, I doubt that Harry would be the central character. I feel I've already told his story. But these are big ifs. Let's give it 10 years."

J.K. Rowling has penned a brand-new Harry Potter story which is being turned into a mini-movie.

The film will be shown at a new theme park called The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida.

All the regulars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are shooting the movie at Leavesden, Herts, before starting two films based on final Potter novel The Deathly Hallows.

It appears she has sold out. I could deal with the movies, but action figures and theme parks cheapen the whole thing and make it seem so silly and commercial.

As the author, I do respect her judgement in deciding if the story should end or not. But it does make me wonder if she might be dragging this out for the publicity and the money.

Beetle gets no love from retailers?

Quote:
With the series over, fans (and bookstores, whose summer sales were down 26%) are in a lethargy of Potter withdrawal and looking desperately for a literary felix felicis to ease the pain. When the much-anticipated Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film was bumped from its November release date only to be replaced by a tepid-looking Twilight, fans were gnashing their teeth and donning the sackcloth and ashes. In fact, the only good thing about 2008 for Potter lovers is Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard, set to hit bookstores December 4th.

After a year of frustration and disappointment, Potter-heads are beyond ready to dust off the wizard costumes and let it all hang out at a rousing midnight release party flowing with plenty of butterbeer and arcane Hogwarts trivia. The only problem with this scenario is that no bookstores seem to be hosting a release party.

While many will open their doors at midnight to sell the book to the thronging masses, at this time, no bookstores--including Barnes and Noble Bookstores and Borders Books--have any plans to hold celebrations. (Barnes and Noble has confirmed they will NOT be.)
