I got home from work today and had a package on the porch from TOR
Got the snare drum safe and sound and will start on it tomarrow .
So you want me to paint that pretty wood and turn it into a Kandy Brandywine Blues Pumpin', Rock Bangin', Toe Tapin', Snare HUH ?

Yeah. The wood is nice but Deb doesn't care for the blonde wood color. I've had it for a long time, so I guess I'm tired of it, too.

Way back when I had a semi-vintage Slingerland snare that matched a drumset someone else had. He pounded on me to sell it to him, but I settled for a trade. The Slingerland wasn't even round anymore and wouldn't tune well.

So this begins The Spraytech Project! Isn't this so cool?

So all could see the transformation.............From bland to GRAND......

Yep. That's it. Guess I better get to work on the hardware. I'd hate for it to be dull next to the new paint.

I'm going to put the Ted Nugent Buff it up JOB on it

Like I was saying TOR its not orange like in the photos, My wife loved it so much she wants me to change colors on the hot rod now
I sprayed the Kandy over my special mix charcoal
It has just the right sparkle, not gaudey. I hope you will like it .
I should ship it next week , I just have to make sure it wont mar the paint when shipped as fresh paint takes awhile to really cure .

We're gawking over the pictures here. I'm glad I checked in. I have rehearsal in about a hour. Thanks a bunch! Everyone loves it!

You are the pro so I will defer to your judgement. However long you think it needs will be fine. I was thinking about getting my Dremmel out and polishing "swirls" onto the hardware. That would be different.

This is going to be fun!

I have worked at this dealership for 6 years now and we have went through 4 bosses , and it hasent changed , they all F-off all week then want to bust ass on Friday and send all the cars home that night .........Plus our parts guys never check if we have parts locally , they would rather order from another state because thay make a couple of dollars more from shipping, and let us in the body shop sit around all week,
Then they cant figure out why I leave work when I dont have anything to do , hell I'm on commision not on the clock , when I am not painting I dont make any money, so I say the hell with it and go HOME!!!!!!
I tell them if the world ends tonight , they sure arent going to need their friggin cars tomarrow!!!

do they still make those red tinted skins ? that would look awesome on this with polished up chrome pieces around the newly painted wood

I need to see if my grandmother still has my snare drum ( it was silver metal flake )in the attic of her garage, if she does it hasent seen the light of day since 1972 ...LOL
I have it in my sisters old accordian case .

The Evans company was bought out about 5 or 6 years ago and they dropped the red heads from the product line. I still have a few but not a 14". You can get clear, black, or blue.

Speaking of cases I need one for this one. Better start negotiating with Jeff!

I taped the inside edge, so its still the light colored wood inside.
I hope this isnt a problem, as it would of been to hard to spray the inside Kandy too.

I can take it back to work and spray the inside of it flat black if you want, that is if your going to put a clear skin on it , and dont think the light colored wood will look good inside showing .

My plan was to use some maple polyshade urathane inside it. It stains up real red but the wood grain will show through. At least, that's the plan. Sometimes plans don't agree with me.

That sounds great TOR, I am sorry that i didnt paint the inside , but painting kandy is pretty tough to spray , and i dont think i could of gotten it to look like i wanted so i masked up the inside.
I think that staining it will be a nice look.
I will get it sent out in the next couple of days.
I am anxious to se it all together

Yeah! You got it right!

I didn't have a lot of money but I have the new heads for it. I'm going with a Evans Hydraulic Glass for the batter side and a Remo Low Collar Clear for the snare side. The Remo is actually a marching head but the low collar design should keep the rim from hiding the new paint so bad. Besides that the "regular" snare head film is hazy while these are window clear. I like that better. You have to be careful. When Remo says "clear" it is most likely "nearly clear" in reality.

I wanted to tell you if you wanted to do the rest your set in Kandy I have plenty left over.( if they need it)
Or if you have any other ones you want painted ......Just wanted you to know this.
I had fun doing it and would do it again . I wounder how a whole set would look all in that color? with all gold trimmings ?
You will have to see the paint to really get an idea of what I am saying.
I hope it looks good with bright lights showing on it

Talk about a fantasy! That would be so nice. I have made a few inquiries about "golding" the chrome. I heard rumors of a clear coat spray that uses the chrome shine but turns it gold. I also heard it's not so durable. No real clue as to where or how much to get it. Or even if I want to.

Yea that would be something you would want to try on a cheapy , I am going to call granny this weekend and see if she will let me in the garage and see if my old snare is in there.
If it is I am going to paint it the same color kandy and see if one of my buddies that has a detail shop still does that gold electro plating and have him do all the chrome pieces , if so I will do it and send it to you free , as I have no use for it . havent played a set since it went in the garage in 1972 when we moved out of state......LOL........... I was 12 years old then...HA HA HA

I worked all afternoon to clean up the chrome lugs and rims. I must say that it's not the best chrome plating I've ever seen but then you run into that in the drum world a lot. I guess they don't watch American Chopper.

Had a surprise on my doorstep this evening. The drum shell is back safe.

And I must say we were stunned! That is exactly the color that I described! Perfect! Now Deb wants me to do the rest of the set!

Anyhow I started staining the inside. 2nd coat tomorrow. But that paint is right on!!

Good job and thanks!!

Sorry. Had rehearsal last night and didn't get home 'till after 10:00.

It's not bad, but I need to tweak it. That hydraulic head is a bit too heavy so I'm going to swap it out for a pinstripe. I also need to center the snare bed better so it "floats" on the head. All in all, not too shabby. Jeff went "WOW" when he saw the paint for the first time.

Yep. He even fronted me for a case for it.

I would have taken a picture tonight but I had to run to town to "rescue" my step son.

My mom ? yes , but not very often, I might see her once a year for one day if she comes visits my grandmother and calls and tells me . We were never a close family , and we dont show affection to each other, just the way I was raised. I didnt talk to my sister for 5 years and she lives in the same town as me .

I'm usually that way except this time we had to deal with a real antagonist named Randy Scott. He tried assault & battery on me in my dining room about 4 years ago. I sent him to jail, but he's out now. And he found my step son at the fairgrounds and threatened him. Cops won't do anything until the punch is thrown so I went to get him. His ride was inside watching the races.

I know its odd that I dont contact my mom very often , and is bad I know, but when you never seen affection much from your mom , i guess you cant crave what you never had.

I am closer to my Mother-in-law now.

Wanna know a real kicker?
My dad called me out of the blue last SUNDAY , havent heard from him since i last seen him in 1976, thats the 3rd time I've heard from him since I was 4 , when my parents got divorced.........LOL
Hes not in good health and 72 and has emphazima, I think he was making amends, it was funny because when I answerd the phone he asked if i could guess who it was , and i said yep " my dad" .........It freaked him out more then his call did to me . I still remember his thick Rhode Island accent.
I hate to say it but it was more of a bother to me then anything, if that makes any sence?

I think so. I have to run to Probster's place where we're putting together my new computer (yay) but I'll bring it along. Chances are there will be lull's while we're waiting on something to finish so I'll get it done there.

First night with the new snare. Things went well. It de-tuned a bit as it was played but then again the rest of the set will do that. I had someone notice it out of the blue. That was neat!

It's black piano lacquer. It's the same paint Yamaha puts on their grand piano's. They say it takes a month to paint one drum in the Recording Custom series. It's a 7 layer process.

For your enjoyment, here are the Snare Brothers. The SprayTech Project and the Black Cannon.

It still earned me a pick.

If I (or anyone) goofs onstage Jeff will throw a guitar pick at 'em.

Heh. I decided once to pick them up. After awhile my snare case was full of them!

When I do a Chapman gig I have the full set (usually) like seen in the thread here.

About the drumstick thing. Well, it economics. When he throws a pick it's between .15 and .25 cents. One drumstick is between $7.00 and $9.00 (on average).

I have more to loose!

Well, I don't know how many more times I can pull the full drumset out so I took a few pictures last night. Here it all is... With a new family member on the left!

And for Wesley: You can see my monitor cabinet behind the SprayTech snare. A 15" and a 18"... That is what you need!

They seem to hang around the blues band. This gig was the brothers. The older group.

We don't know why a town with a country music radio station and roots in farming went so nuts over a Chicago blues band. They want us to play for two more town and county festivals!

We have had something strange happen. A local blues promoter wants us to come down to a club this Thursday to see what we're all about. He likes our promo CD and wants to try and get us in to play some clubs on the St. Louis Riverfront. These are the same places that attract big acts like BB King and Buddy Guy.

It's exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time.

I have some mp3's. If you have a email inbox that will accept larger files I can send a few. No problem. If anyone is interested just let me know. I could put together a real CD, too. I have done some before and those files are still here.

I would rather play for a living if I could live that way. But I'd be giving up medical and vision insurance, a 401k (for whatever that's worth in this economy), and union benefits. If I could cover those things somehow I'd be on the tour bus yesterday!
