The Federal Court of Canada ruled a couple weeks ago that downloading a song for personal use or making one available in a shared P2P directory is not a violation of the nation's copyright law. In addition to his copyright finding, Justice Konrad von Finckenstein rejected a request from the Canadian recording industry association to force ISPs to turn over the names of 29 alleged P2P music pirates. The ruling may be appealed.
