I don't have one yet but I am seriously considering one. I think when I have time I'm going to head down to the local humane society and pick me up a furry friend. Any recommendations? I've never owned a cat

All that I can say is pick one that likes to be handled by you and is mellow. (Being mellow works best for me)

Is there any advantage of having male or female? I know with dogs a female is always the best option.

I vote for a female, male cats spray and that smell never goes away. Other than that, I say anyone that is friendly and likes your smell. Make sure you hold all of them to see who goes to you the best.

I vote for female too. Although we've been bringing in one of the barncats, which is a male, for a couple hours at a time. I usually keep it on my lap. Lucy goes nuts and gets pretty rough nosing it.

I highly recommend a cat like my late Lummy...a Honeybear. On the thread about my Lumlum dying there is a link to some sites that talk about his breed. It says they are very mellow, very loyal and very affectionate and love to be picked up and hugged. They go limp like a ragdoll. Check it out. They are more like faithful dogs than cats because they just love you and love you no matter what.

Where do I get one of those? They are awesome.

@ work. I mentioned I wanted a cat and one of my coworkers is looking to get rid of one. So hes going to clear it with his wife and then Casey will come home with me.

Is Casey a boy or a girl?

The only reason they want to get rid of her is the fact shes afraid of the dog. Poor baby. She will fit in fine with me since I don't have a dog.

Nope because I'm taking my daughters cat. Angel will be moving in on Sunday April 18. The other cat got ran over. I was going to take them months ago because my mom didn't want them but my daughter cried and my mom let in.

Aww poor kitty. A house just isnt a house unless it's got a kitty roaming around it. Hope yours fits in nicely.

We could never have a cat, as I am real alergic to them , my eyes swell up and itch, and I start sneezing, then i get to where I can hardly breath.
Not a pretty sight and I end up feeling like crap for several hours.
So i steer clear of cats.

I hear there are shots that you get once a year that pretty much takes care of that.

Me and needles dont get along, I will fight to the death if a DR. gets close to me with one!!!
My ass was a pin cusion when i was young, mom took me to the Dr. for anything, and this Dr. we went to shot me full of pinecillin and I had so much as a kid , my baby teeth turned grey . Now I have such a high tollerence to pinecillin that it takes a dump truck load to do any good.
Its why i wait till I'm on my death bed before i even consider a Dr.

I can't wait for Angel to get her. Caseys owner didn't contact me until yesterday and my mom called and said she really has to get rid of Angel this time. So I am in a dilema where I'm suppose to get two cats. But I'm only taking Angel.Angel is all white and she knows me and I know her. I hope she doesn't mind being a city cat.
