My baby in the Pic is a 5 month old English Bull Terrier, picked her out at 4 weeks old , and brought her home at 8 weeks.
She is up to 26 pounds.
The wife brought home a Toy Fox Terrier On New Years Eve , and she is only 7 days younger then the bull terrier.
She is wound like a cheap timex watch and bounces off the walls.
We lost our Tea cup poodle of 12 years in November and I cant be without a dog!

We lost our 15 year old male Schnauzer Nov. 8th. We still have a 7 year female. I have his picture as my wallpaper. I should get another one but I have so much going on right now I have put it off.

We had almost 12 grand in our poodle over the 12 years, we had her rear knees rebuilt, she was epeliptic, had addisons disease, But it never seemed to stop her.
What got her was ,her heart inlarged and her lungs filled with fluid , and while our vet was trying to get a handle on the fluid to administer the heart shot , her poor little heart just gave out.
Boy was that ever a heart breaking phone call .

Our boy died in my wifes lap and me holding his head. We really should have let him go 5 days sooner. I hurt me more than when I was a kid.
My mother-inlaw said "it's just a dog. Maybe BFI will pick it up if you put him in a bag." Have not said 50 words to her since.

I can't believe your mother in law would say anything like that. That's rotten! It's one thing to go out and find another dog to have, but that comment was totally unwarranted.

I never regretted one instance of how much money we spend on our animals!!

What an afternoon, my Bull Terrier broke her left rear leg today chasing the other pup around the house. Took her to the Vets and they said she broke the growth plate, and My main vet was off today and dont know it he can fix it or not . Wont know till Monday when he looks her over, if he cant opperate I will have to take her to Kansas State University , as they have one of the finest Vet schools.
Thank god we dont have kids too , as I would have to turn my garage into My rubber room so I could bounce off the walls ..LOL

One of our cats escaped. I think that my step-son and his troop decided not to pay attention when they came home last Friday night. I saw her today but there's no way I could catch her. I hope she gets hungry and comes back.

I have to keep her confined for 6 weeks..man this isnt going to be any fun at all, as when I put her in her box tonight after eating she got pissed and started snarling at me.
bless her pea pickin heart, hope i can survive this mess!!!

the vet got the bone almost 100% back in place, which is a good thing, but our kennel we have for her is not as big as the kennels at the vets and the circle cone we have to put around her head so she wont chew the cast is so big around that she can hardly move in her kennel.
Boy this is so stressfull because you feel so sorry for her , but she cant run around the house, or anything, just out to potty and back in her box, because she wants to play & run when she is out. This is going to be a LONG 6 weeks

My wifes old dog hates anything to do with "special treatments." The vet we know gives us mild sedatives for him. Can yours help?

we have been giving sedatives to her and they arent working very good.
They kind of make her unsure of whats going on , and she gets mean and agressive. I might just give a louisville seditive the next time..........
If she attacks the wife she will be put down, as much as i hate to do it.

Well I hate to say it , but I think I'm going to put her down Tuesday when we go the the vets, she attacked me pretty bad( didnt bite me but tried) just a few minutes ago while I was putting her head cone on so she wont chew her cast, thank goodness wife had ahold of leash, as she was jumping up to get a piece of me then she turned to the wife , but she was behind the Kennel gate and the dog came back at me, so I just kicked her in her kennel, and as I was shutting the gate she was still after me.
The training we have done isnt working, and she just gets worse..........and only for being 5 1/2 months old !
I already have 3 grand in her too

Could the humane society or some other organization change her behavior with some different training?

I can understand where you are coming from though. I ran around with a guy that didn't put up with his coon dogs or beagles being that way either. Except that he didn't take his to the vet.

I'm sorry to hear this.

How long have you had this dog? And is this behavior something new since the leg break? Hannah my rott broke her rear leg shortly after we got her and she acted the same way. We just left the cone off and steered clear of her for a bit. When we first got her we feared having to do the same thing. But after she healed some she turned out to be the most loving dog I've ever had. If this dog has been this way for awhile especially before the injury you may have a problem. I'd discuss this with the vet. If you recently got this dog you may need to just give him/her some space and time to aclimate to her new surroundings and to heal.

Reading through this thread I also noticed that you introduced another dog into the mix. Some dogs take awhile to get used to another dog. There is always a stuggle to see who is going to be alpha and with an injury the bull terrier is unable to be alpha with may be stressfull for him/her. Its not good to have an aggressive dog but you may just need to give it a little more time. Like I said before I don't know how long you have had these dogs. Hannah and Ronnie the doberman did the same thing. After Hannah healed she was the better of the two dogs

Oh btw I was thinking of you problem when I was in the shower (DON'T ASK) You may want to talk to the vet about changing his food. Intestinal problems can make a dog cranky and you may also want to contact a bull terrier rescue for suggestions or to see if they can take him/her in if you feel the need to get rid of the dog. The humane society will just put it down if its exhibiting aggressive tendencies. A rescue agency specific to the breed will have more knowledge and patience with it.

Looking around online I'm also seeing that if you spay/neuter the dog they tend to calm down. I really hate to see dogs put down. I know there are circumstances where it has to happen but I'm one for trying everything to not have too. Good Luck. I hope my suggestions help.

hi amy,
I went and picked out this pup at 4 weeks old , and brought her home at 8 weeks.
She is the alpha dog , our other pup is an toy fox terrier and is only 10 lbs,
they were both spayed last month at the same time.
Blaze was in our house for a month untill we brought the other pup home.
they used to eat together , and also would chew pigs ears, and rawhide bones in my lap and on the floor toghther, mostly they would chew on one together . but one day Blaze just went after the other pup like a vengence and I picked her up and it was like having the Tasmanian devel in my hands, I layed her on her back , and pushed her head back like the Vet told me to do , to put her in a submissive position, and it just pissed her off.
She also gets nasty if she gets something she isnt supposed to have and you try to get it from her, the only way to get it from her is to get a treat or squeaky toy to to distract her.
We have had her in puppy training and it didnt help much as she is submissive to other dogs, and loves people,.
I have asked the vet on his oppinion and he suggests more training , but alot of good it is if they dont teach how to overcome the agressive behavior.
My wife talked to a animal behaviorist and she wants us to film her aggressiveness towards the other dog, but I dont feel like putting my other dog in the type of environment just so this lady can see her get aggressive!!
We now feed the dogs seperate from one another in closed off rooms.
They will take treats side by side with out getting mean, so hell I dont know what to do , all I know is I cant take very much more if it , I dont have the patcience (sp) anymore.

If I had the money I would ask ya to send her to me. But she is yours and you know best. I seem to do much better with animals than with people. I wish you and the pup all my best.

I have never had any problems with any animals in my life either, I only raised my voice to this dog, never hit her, i would roll up a magazine and hit my hand with it , and it would only work once , then it was back to yelling NO, then I would go over to her and pick her up , and take her away from what she was getting into , and subsitute a toy for what got her in trouble.
I have also gave her time outs in her kennel for her bad behavior & that doesnt seem to work either, I have slammed a golf club on the floor when she chewed the butlers window wood , and she ran like hell and left it alone and has never chewed it again. She seen my real pissed off side Sunday, and got my wrath. Now i feel bad at what i did , I damn near kicked the kennel with her in it through the wall , now I have a big hole in my living room wall i have to fix. My worry is if she does get ahold of one of us its going to do some major damage as she is strong and has a rather large mouth with some serious teeth.

I understand. And I in no way am 2nd judging you. I just wish I could help you and the pup. I have no money but too much time. I would help some of the dogs at our shelter but I can not pay the $95.00 and still care for the dog. So we both lose.

Thing is i already have 3000 dollars in her now, i dont want to give her away or put her to sleep, but I just dont know what to do ?
I am torn apart on what i need to do , I will ask my vet on his oppinion again,
I know these dogs take a ton of time , but i have never read where they are aggresssive to their owners, as i have done research on them for years.

Injured animals are so unpredictable. My wife's dog and my step-sons fight like brothers. The step-sons start growling and my wife's just won't let that pass. We've had some gashes and bites. They seem to be tamer after a injury than before. Weird.

That is very strange if that dog's personality just snapped overnight like that. Maybe after getting it spayed it shot its hormones out of wack and it'll take some time for them to level back out.

Diamond one of my friends pit bull terriers exhibited this behavior for awhile it took them along time to get him to calm down. I wish you luck. It sounds like you've tried alot of options.

I once had a Sheppard mix that went through a mean period. Turned out she wanted to be the boss. Once she learned I was the boss she calmed down. It was a rough few weeks. I lost her to my ex.She was no longer my dog. The dog would come see me when I got home. Then she went and stayed by the x.but she was terrified of storms and whenever it would start, she would come by me because she knew I would protect her. That would irritate the x. So it was good on both counts.

We took her in to the vets for her checkup on Tuesday, and they took off the cast to have a look at the leg and the said it looked good , and i asked if the would keep her over night so they could give her a bath before they put on the new cast. We were suppose to get her last night but the wife worked later then usual and my truck wont take the kennel in the cab , as I didnt want to put it in the bed of truck, so we had them have her another night, as tonight Her Puppy training classes start and it is just behind the vets so we will just go there at 7PM tonight to pick her up and go to puppy training , and come home.
The Vet said it might take some time and a ton of patcience to get her out of her aggressiveness, plus the trainer is going to give us a couple of books to read .
She is a good pup, but its just when she doesnt want you to take something away from her that she knows she isnt suppose to have , or have something done to her she doesnt want done to her is when she acts up.
I guess time will tell, but man I sure am dreading it though.

A hot-headed year old quarter horse does quite the same thing! Only problem is you are dealing with a creature that weighs in at 1200 pounds!

We have "join up" tricks for horses, I'm lost with dogs...

Butting in with my tips again. When Hannah wouldn't let go of stuff we always said no. Our trainer saw that we weren't getting anywhere and said that the dog may have been confusing no with go. Anyhow a stern Drop it let her know we were serious and it wasn't a game.

When we play with her toys , she will bring the ball (toy) she will let go for us to throw it again, its the stuff she gets , like my socks, shoes, ect........ thats when she growls or snaps when you try to take it away, she knows she has something she isnt suppose to have and she doesnt want to give it up, so we have to say "TREAT" and she will go to the kitchen and the other one of us will get what she has and put it up.

I agree 1000%. You can tell the quality of a person by how they feel about animals. I will only associate with people who feel the same way about animals as all of us here on the board. If someone doesn't like them or is "God forbid" mean to them, or don't understand how I feel about them, I steer clear of those people, as I think there is something wrong with them, you know?

we are having the front of the house fenced off so the pups can run some of their energy off, as I'm getting to old to run around the house on their leashes . and they are way to fast for me to keep up , and getting dragged along isnt any fun,

with out the fence i would watch them run off and yelling at them to come back would fall on deaf ears .LOL
But hopefully by next week some time they will finish the fence, they have most of it up, just have 2 gates to install and finish inbetween my garages as I made them pull it up as they cut my sprinkler system digging the post holes which was the main line and they have to fix that before I will let them finish the job!!!
I will post a picture of my vynal picket fence when its done with the pups on on the other side .

I want to cement the whole yard and paint it green, now thats my kind of yard work..NONE !!!
But the way these pups eat grass i wont need to mow , they act like billy goats out side , and turmites inside, my wifes pup loves to grab a mouthfull of toilet tissue and run down the hall an un-roll it off the roll .

My wife's dog eats logs.

He will grab wood off the pile (sometimes up to 7" around), run back and fourth a few laps, lay down and chew through it. He will get it in two faster than a beaver.

I sent a AVI video clip to Colleen awhile back that I lost my copy of. Maybe if we're nice we can get her to send it!
