I think your going to like the iphone, I don't know how its going to be on a CDMA network though you can't surf and talk at the same time. But you are gonna love it

I've never had a GSM phone, so I don't know what it's like to talk and use the web at the same time. You don't miss what you never had. AT&T just isn't that great where my family lives, and I couldn't see switching to a carrier that doesn't have service wherever I frequently go.

I am keeping the BlackBerry, however, because it's "global." I wish Apple had made Verizon's iPhone a dual mode CDMA/GSM phone for global roaming. I'll be out of the country some this summer, and I want to be able to have a phone with me. Though, I will probably be within range of WiFi to be able to make Skype calls on the iPhone. It costs way too much to actually roam on Vodafone's network.

according to reports apples data is faster yet verizon's voice service is far better. I live in an area where ATT is actually decent or I'd be beating down verizons door. I also don't use my phone as a phone that much

I'm the opposite: I use my phone primarily as a phone. Second is for email, and then third is web surfing.

Ok giving CC back his flame thrower

I had a Droid, briefly, this Christmas. My one-year-old cousin drooled all over my BlackBerry and killed it. I was pretty sure the iPhone was coming, but I needed a new phone right then and I didn't want another BlackBerry. I got the HTC Droid Incredible, and I must say that it is a great device. HTC's Sense UI is, for the most part, very pretty and intuitive. My only gripe was that its battery was pretty close to terrible and the voice dial didn't work very well. Usually by 2pm, the battery was close to dead and I would have to recharge it.

Long story short, I returned the Incredible, got out of my contract renewal, and bought a beat-up BlackBerry Tour (which is what I had) off of eBay to tide me over until the iPhone came out. Since I returned the Incredible, I got my upgrade and $50 discount back. So the iPhone ended up costing me $249 instead of $299. I got the 32GB because I also intended for this to be a replacement for my 5-year-old iPod. That's something else the Incredible couldn't do very easily.

Amy's just mad cause her buddies on facebook decided to call her out about saying a certain percent of droid owners would switch to the iphone and they called her on it and now she is over here in her safe zone taking it out on me

I have the 32 GB model too and intended it to replace my old ipod but it hasn't been replaced yet, I just haven't had the heart to break up with my ipod. The important thing is a case, Speck makes nice cases that fit well, most iphone owners end up buying multiple cases but I'd recommend starting with a Speck in the beginning. Otterbox makes a heavy duty case but it's f-ugly and clunky in size and I really don't picture you needing or wanting an Otterbox defender.

I'm cheap. The leather case/belt clip that came with my BlackBerry is also going to house the iPhone when it arrives on Monday. That is the only case that I've ever liked; and I'm also too cheap to buy another one just for the iPhone.

You're right about me and the Otterbox. I have a friend who has one for his BlackBerry, and it is way too clunky and ugly. I would never put an Apple device in something like that. And since I don't plan on mountain climbing or cave diving with my phone, I think the Otterbox is overkill.

I am a little pissed at Verizon right now. The phone went on pre-order at 3am, Thursday morning. I ordered mine at 7am, when I got up. Verizon always does next-day delivery if you order by mid-afternoon or something like that. So why did they wait until 6am, this morning, to ship it? Now that means I will have to wait until Monday. Yeah, yeah... I know it's just a phone, and I've been waiting four years for it. Two more days won't kill me. But DAMMIT, I want it now!

Which Droid do you have? I liked my HTC because of the Sense UI, but I've hated the Motorola Droids I've played with.

I forgot what droid it is , but it is a HTC and its the other one that was first sold other then the droid X , it is all touch screen . Says Google on the back .

Joseph, you never said how you like it. Waiting...

The only thing that I miss about the BlackBerry is the physical keyboard. I thumb type really quickly, which doesn't always work well on the software keyboard. However, the "keys" are spaced farther apart on the iPhone than on the Android phones I've used. So I do make less mistakes on the iPhone when rapidly typing; and the autocorrect does a pretty good job. But I still have to proof-read everything before I send it because it doesn't correct everything.

I will also say that Android's layout is sometimes more logical. The Preferences for each application is within that application. On the iPhone, everything is under Settings on the home screen. Android's notification system was more intuitive to me, too.

My only big problem is that, when setting up Gmail through the most obvious path, new messages will not be pushed to the device. I had to go online to the Apple support forum to learn that I should have done the much more complicated Microsoft Exchange setup with Gmail to have the push actually work. That part was very cumbersome--not smooth and Apple-like at all. They say they're fixing that problem.

The battery life is leagues ahead of the HTC Incredible I had for a few weeks. Even with heavy iPod and web usage, along with talking, I can go over 24 hours without charging it.

BlackBerries have never synced well with the Mac, and Android doesn't either. So I am really enjoying how well the iPhone communicates with Address Book and iCal. Though, since it's an Apple device, it shouldn't work any other way.

Am I totally in love? No. I think I'm still in semi-shock from leaving BlackBerry. Their OS isn't intuitive in any way, but I know it inside and out. The iPhone is, overall, very slick and easy to figure out. Although I do think that Apple relies way too much on that one home button. Double click to toggle between applications and hold to activate voice commands is not something my grandparents or parents could figure out.

Was it worth $250? Yes. Is it worth the $725 retail, out-of-contract price? No. If I had spent that much money, I would be a little pissed.

I wouldn't pay the unsubsidized price for the iphone either.

While no phone is perfect and no carrier is either, I find the iphone more enjoyable than the droid. I've never owned a droid but I've used friends phones (HTC and the samsung captivate) the droid has the cool swipe feature that I wish the iphone would get and the droid is integrated with google, but I don't rely on google enough that that would matter. I find the battery life so much better on the iphone and the screen easier on the eyes. Most of the people I know with the droid have issues (battery life, sync, the droid marketplace, screen becoming unresponsive with heavy use requiring more restarts than the iphone) I also like how the iphone syncs with the mac. I think with continued use you will be very happy with your iphone compared to the BB and as far as the keyboard there are third party blue tooth options to have a physical keyboard integrated in the phone case, but in time I think you will get used to the on screen keyboard.

Another irritant is the lack of an Ignore button for incoming calls.

Hit the button on the top of the phone it'll send them automatically to voice mail

Difference between ATT and Verizon iphone

Well, my Verizon iPhone 4 crapped out yesterday. I think someone called me--I'm not sure--and it began vibrating and wouldn't stop. Neither of the two buttons would make it do anything. So I called Apple and they sent me a replacement, which arrived in less than 24 hours. I'm syncing the new one now.

I hope the iPhone will be like my iPod: The first one I bought died within a year, and the second is still alive, seven years later.

This is TMI, but I'm going to tell it anyway. I lost my leather belt clip and had to wedge my phone between my legs and my chair's seat until the new clip I bought on eBay arrived. I had to carry it like that while it was vibrating until I got home; and let's just say this: It was a very unique experience.
