Unless you're using it in your car--and you shouldn't be--I don't see why 3G would be needed. At home/work/school, there'll probably be WiFi.

Fujitsu Claims It Used ‘iPad’ First!

Well we got an iPad on Friday after much discussion over possible uses and so far it's working well. The main thing we wanted it for was downloading maps for our four wheel drive trips. I'm still downloading a few different apps just to try them out.
I don't know about over there but here we have prepaid 3G which means if we're in a remote area we still have the ability to email for help in an emergency. It costs $30 for 3gig
As time goes on I'll update just how good it is.

I wanted an ipad so bad but couldn't afford one. They are awesome. Congrats on getting one. Like Tral said you will wonder what you did without it.

Tral you should check out the prices of the new droid tablets and windows tablets coming out. They are all in about the same price range. I don't think there is a huge mark up on them, I think they plan on making money off apps and data packages.

The main thing I would use a tablet for is to play games or read books with. Currently I can use my computer to play games on and I have 2 e-ink ebook readers that I alternate using I tend to love the simplicity of the cybook over the astek ezreader

I want a kindle, I would love an ipad, but I basically have an ipad nano with my iphone anyhow. If you ever decide to donate any of your spare ereaders, chumbies ect. send them my way.

I'm loving the quality of the iPad and for those of us with bad eyesight the big screen is magic for reading maps. It's a beautiful piece of technology!

We were lucky enough to buy it on and 18 month interest free plan so no shelling out over a grand in one hit and no paying money to anyone.

Get a good smartphone. For what the iPad models with 3G cost, you're pretty close to a new MacBook that can do a whole lot more than the iPad. I know the iPad is more portable than a laptop, but I don't see where the function outweighs the cost.

Actually the new Windows 7 is way better then the versions of windows that let you down in the past Amy and Joseph. I am unsure if you tried it yet, but if you get a chance you should check it out. Not saying you will convert to it but you may like it

I have used it briefly, and it didn't impress me. But that isn't entirely the fault of Windows itself. I was setting up a friend's bargain basement HP laptop, and the OS wouldn't have been so laggy had it been running on better hardware. Best Buy and HP also had a lot of preloaded sh¡it on their that was probably slowing it down too. I should've uninstalled it, but I was too lazy. I will say that 7 is better than Vista. I cringe whenever someone wants me to do something to a Vista machine.

Personally, I still like XP. There've been enough service packs and tweaks over the years that it seems to run really well. I think our IT people must agree, because any new non-Apple computer that the school buys is still ordered with XP installed. It looks like they're slowly migrating to OS X based machines, but it is a very slow and unofficial adoption if that is, indeed, what they're doing. I've just noticed a lot of the newer computers being bought are iMacs.

My default windows OS is XP too. Vista sucked and Win7 is better but they moved everything around, tried to imitate the masters (apple) and failed imo, also most out of the box windows computers are so bogged down with added software that it truly messes up the experience. Windows should stop allowing that. Also Apple OS is cheaper to upgrade than windows. So yes Apples cost more in the beginning but over time they are actually cheaper, no av to buy or tweak or to slow you down, OS upgrades cheaper, down time way less. I guess once you go Mac you don't go back.

They piss away money , but they never hire any innovators just copycatters ..
