When we moved in here a year ago I questioned the dead tree in the back yard. My fear was that during a winter storm it might come down on the nearby power lines and leave us with out any.

On Saturday i got tired of looking at it and decided to climb it and take off the limbs that were close to the power lines.

So I make cleats out of 2x4's and nailed them to the tree and worked my way up. I am guessing that it is about 30-40 feet to the point that I positioned myself at and went to work with an electric chain saw. My neighbor came running out of the house and asked if I was nuts and I replied why yes I am. I got the limbs down by tying a rope around the limbs, wrapping, the rope around the main trunk, and lowering them to the ground. This worked very well and even amazed me in the process. I was going to go up and take down the other limbs on the other part of the trunk, However, At almost 54 my body had a lot to say to me for putting it through so much and I am still sore. My neighbor told me he couldn't bear to watch me up there and suggested we just fell the rest of the tree in his yard.

So here is the tree

Why didn't you just call someone? The electric company sends a crew out to do that here.

Also to defy death. His backup plan should the tree fall, was to jump onto the power lines and swing down all heroic like.

With the amount of electricity passing through him, I'm sure he could turn on many appliances by just touching them.

I asked the local power guy to look at it when we first moved in last year and his reply was that he wasn't worried about it.

We don't have tree service people here so the mileage would kill me.
