I can believe that as my aunt got a new computer with vista and hates it as its not as intuitive as xp Also other people I talked to did not like it either.

Unfortunately the laptop I was downgrading to XP wouldn't cooperate with it. The driver support for XP just wasn't there at sony's site. I ended up putting a copy of Vista Ultimate on the laptop. The bad thing is that it still has Vista on it. The good thing is it no longer has all Sony's "Crapware" in it. It boots normally in about 40 seconds, and has no lags or speed bumps to get over now. It'll lay a scratch on your lap when you hit the power button. If you guys are going to get Vista, which is inevitable if you keep buying PC's. Get a clean copy from MS, or an OEM copy from a place like newegg if you want to save money. Its well worth the money to not have proprietary crapware in your system. Its unbelievable how much better that laptop is running.

I'm still pissed at the fact that Asus motherboards with onboard audio don't work in Vista. Asus is one of the leading motherboard manufacturer's, yet Vista's high definition audio drivers that are supposed to be the correct drivers, the sound don't work and Asus doesn't have Vista sound drivers on their site at all... so basically I have no sound in Vista at all, and when your blind is a BIG problem..lol so I'm thinking about buying a cheap sound card somewhere, but haven't decided rather I wanna go pci-e x1 or just a cheap standard pci sound blaster or something. Long as it works with my Creative 5.1 speakers, with Vista, I don't care. Really thats my only complaint with it so far, asside from the fact that in actuality it requires at least 3 GB of RAM to function. I've got an NVIDIA 7300 GS PCI-E in here with 2 GB of RAM, and its still as slow as mollasses, so I may have to up it to 3GB or 4 GB, either that or a better video card not sure whats slowing it down so much. programs are running ok, but it takes awhile for windows to appear on the screen, so I am thinking it could be lacking in video RAM, but you'd think a 256 mb video card would be enough *shrugs*

Did you open up your sound mixer and make sure the speakers were not turned all the way down or not set up to output sound.

The first thing I do when I get a pre-installed machine using XP or Vista, is to format it and install using the oem supplied operating system. I tried once cleaning a computer by removing all the unneeded crap. Took a few hours and still wasn't as fast as a clean install.

I have an Asus P5N-E SLI mobo. While it looks like they've finally come round to supporting vista with my board. I still haven't tried the sound drivers for the board. I run a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Luckily driver support was available through the manufacturer for my sound card. Cause when I put vista on this board there wasn't any driver support from Asus for the onboard sound. Can't say if their drivers work in vista for this board or not cause I like my sound blaster. (running 6.1 logitech speakers.) I feel your pain though, I adopted vista as soon as chipset drivers came out for my mobo. Nvidia put them out first, not Asus. Hopefully they'll catch up with your board too. A letter of complaint from a customer never hurts.

I have been putting off buying a new computer because of this Vista mess. I am wondering if I shouldn't just buy a portable hard drive and move all of my work stuff over there. I have way too much on my existing hard drive and bought a 4 gig memory stick as a back up for the data. But I think I would feel better with another hard drive. Any thoughts on this?
