Microsoft update kills ZoneAlarm News Source: http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/07/09/microsoft-update-kills..."PUNTERS who use the ZoneAlarm security package might not want to install MS update KB951748. According to several news groups, the first thing you will notice after running the update is that your internet connection dies as KB951748 made changes to the networking files that Zonealarm doesn't like. It then decides to block everything just to be safe. You can get around the problem by setting the Internet Zone Security permission slider from high to medium and that will give you your connection back but that is not really a good idea if you want high security. Sniffing around the forums we found similar advice although, apparently, the best bet is to reset the ZoneAlarm database."...

That happened to me the first time I tried Zone Alarm, in about 2000 or 2001, right after XP had shipped. I haven't used it since.

Or at least share a little info with the ZA people. I had installed it on the good advice of Patrick and Leo from TSS. It lasted about a week. After that I went to the paid version of NIS. Been using it every since.

Hrmmm, I've kind of been slapping my hands over MS search lately. It isn't the live desktop search is it. I put that in my computer at work, then shortly there after was sorry I did. edit: Went and checked it out. I'm downloading and installing sp1 for office 2003, a silverlight update and the search update.

Yep, it was a desktop search. Have removed it for now. Just don't need the extra services running in the background.
