How many news junkies rely on their isp's version of newsgroups since they usally limit how much you can download at a time tongue

Doesn't matter as long as you are able to grab fresh stuff within ten days when using Verizon. At least with binaries. Not sure how long they keep regular text. Now people will have to pay another provider just for Usenet, but get ten or twenty times the retention.

It's comparable to shutting down the entire internet because someone found some bad stuff on it. Like some have said, it might just be a precursor to metered internet.

If enough people leave verizon they will probably reinstate the groups as them shutting it down was voluntary and not mandatory tongue

The thing is most users don't use usenet and those that do are people that do not rely on their isps version of the usenet tongue

There is no competition here, unless you count satellite as competition. I'd rather not pay more for Usenet than I am currently paying for internet service. smile

My modem belched. I spoke to Verizon support and reset my modem with the reset button. It refused the access passwords to reset my passwords. The techie didn't understand me when I mentioned another access route for which I needed codes
Two calls later I Found one that knew what I was talking about. I dropped the DHCP connection and setup a direct access PPoE connection. It should keep me up until I replace my modem

Delayed update. My replacement modem arrived. It's an updated model with new protocols. My Safari settings gave it a headache, so, instead of erasing all my cookies I configured with Firefox.
Once configured Safari is fine

My modem reset it's self again. Every 4-6 weeks my modem resets,
Iy's on, blinking merrily away, just won't let anything in or out.
I call Verizon, we re-config the modem (not my computer) and
start another cycle. This is my 3rd modem
I think it's a silver bullet to check for illegalites causing it
