It's funny. I used to like tomatoes, but now I don't unless they are the wee sweet grape tomatoes.

The only substantial meal I've had today was breakfast: a granola bar and some milk. Lunch was barbecue chicken wings with fries, and for dinner I had a Whopper.

I cooked outside to keep the heat out. Then a storm blew through. Interesting, but I got done and back inside.

I was watching the news today and saw this woman on tv complaining about making her kids eat their vegatables, so what she did was start puraing them and adding them to dishes she made daily. smile She kept the same color so the kids did not know like adding butternut squash to mac and cheese laugh

I would have probably ate my vegatables if my mom had tried that when I was young smile

My mother never hid anything. You simply had to try things before you could say that you didn't like it. If you didn't like something, you didn't have to eat it. But you wouldn't have a special meal that you did like made for you either. In other words, you ate what was available or you had to find your own food and cook it.

I think that's why I love all kinds of food. Two of my cousins are very picky and that's because my aunt and uncle will go out of their way to get separate meals for everyone so that each person will have what they want. The girl is getting much, much better about trying new things. But the boy still looks at things and turns his nose up before even trying it because he knows they will cook or buy him something that he does want.

Can you tell I have no sympathy for parents with picky children? wink

James has a few dislikes but the only thing he won't even contemplate trying these days is tomato. He wouldn't even have tomato sauce/ketchup until a couple of years ago and still won't have it on a hot dog. Other than that he is becoming quite the foodie. laugh

A tomato is one of the greatest things in the world, in my opinion. It usually is a texture issue with them and not entirely the flavor.

I won't eat collard greens or turnip greens in any form or fashion. There are foods that I don't care for, but I will eat them cooked in certain ways. But those two things are the only foods that I will not eat.

I agree totally on the tomato. The best I've had was a basil and cherry tomato salad with balsamic vinegarette. Delicious!

I have some dislikes but not enough to be considered fussy.

Tomato good. Fresh. Not long-hauled nerfballs. Best at room temperature

I can't remember the name of it, but Marché Burette on Amelia Island serves this delicious salad that is very similar. There are three different type of tomatoes, cheeses, herbs, spinach, and balsamic vinaigrette. It's light and it makes a delicious lunch.

With freshly cracked pepper and a little ground sea salt. laugh Thankfully there's a range of vine ripened tomatoes at the supermarket these days and they taste pretty good.

Oh I agree Joseph. I have a cousin who accomidates his child at every turn, she won't eat this, won't eat that. She loves bread, cherrys, olives, but won't eat meat or vegggies.....and she's having medical problems......do we see a connection people. But you know we can't say anything, although everyone is thinking the same thing...duh, how about a piece of fish or a green bean......anyone, anyone?

I like Dr. Phil's method of breaking the picky habit. You put the plate in front of the child. If the child refuses to eat it before trying any of it, you take the plate and tell them they don't have to eat it. And then you tell them that the next time they ask for food that same plate will be waiting on them and it will not go away until they try it. Like he said, children will not starve. When they get hungry enough, they'll cave and try it.

Just try it I say. If you don't like it that's fine.

I try tomato's raw once every couple of years. Never liked them before, but now I can handle a little in a salad or on a burger.

But I love ketchup. Go figure?

Definitely a texture thing. Same reason why I like the taste of watermelon but can't stand eating much of it. Likewise with coconut. Tastes alright, real chunks of coconut is good, but with coconut frosting, never liked the feeling of eating thin pieces of plastic. smile

Tomatoes are about as unsavory to me as eating raw clams or oysters.

Put it on a plate I'll eat it. (Within reason) Very few things I will not eat.

Fresh tomatoes right from the garden, sliced 1/2 thick on a plate covered with favorite salad dressing, a bit af salt and pepper. Yum.

Possibly the acid content. Tomatoes would make my Nan haemorrage because of the acid content.

My former mother in law used to put a teaspoon of sugar into spaghetti sauce to counteract the acid (supposedly) and it tasted like crap.

I made a tuna salad for supper. I'm gonna be eating it FOREVER. LOL I have a 10.2 cup bowl and it is stuffed full. There is absolutely no room for anything else in it. Good thing it tastes good. laugh

I'll probably be making a small fruit salad later tonite. I bought a cantaloupe and pineapple and some strawberries (actually those were free 'cuz I spent more than $25 at the store). Should make a nice little salad.

Hey crayola

Just saw the new trailer for the batman movie. Joker blowing stuff up and saying how much he loves his favorite things. Dynamite, black powder, gasoline. I think I have a new hero.

Its going to be hard to beat Jack as the Joker wink
but they say the Kid did an excellent job at playing the new joker ! I may have to see it .

After a week of eating in messes, James wanted spaghetti....so long as his sister didn't cook it. laugh I'd considered doing roast pork for his first dinner at home but apparently the RAAF cooks find roasts easier to do than anything else and he won't be wanting one for quite some time.

Just finished a piece of fresh baked blueberry pie topped with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

I'll be smiling for a long time.

I wanted some waffles the last time I went to the grocery store; but I didn't get them because I am about to be out of town for three weeks and I need to clean out my cabinets and refrigerator.

Awhile back we were talking about campfire coffee. I learned yesterday that once the coffee has boiled if you add a cup of cold water to the mix the grounds will settle out.

I have a bad heart. So I have to watch what I eat. Possum poo is a bit rich for me. Sometimes bovine buggers will work. Even though they are expensive.

Eating is in my top three favorite sensory experiences.

In the Summer of 2004, when I was in the hospital and so sick, I would cry because I wanted to taste so badly and they wouldn't let me eat. Yes, I was being nourished by fluids and I wasn't hungry, but I missed tasting so much. I never knew, until then, what a joy eating brings to life.

I combined Bush's Baked Beans Chile (hot), with Re fried beans to tone it down some. The last time I did that even the dogs could not stand it. I was told to go sleep on the couch.

I'm not that big of a fan for the traditional Thanksgiving fare. That's just me and I can't begrudge the ones who like it (or even crave it) more than me. But I get lucky today and I get to have my Thanksgiving. Flat taco's! It's a recipe design my Mom and myself came up with. Basically a flat tortilla with the ingredients on top pizza style.

After this year I don't think my parents are going to be able to host Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner anymore. Not sure if I'll end up doing it, or if I will be able to talk them in going out to eat, perhaps at a buffet.

We've done the eating-out-for-Thanksgiving thing, and it was kind of depressing to me. Of course, this year at home wasn't great either. If I didn't have a sick relative, I would've greatly regretted not going to Florida with a friend.

Mom just made this candy recipe today smile It's not bad smile She used a whole potato and just followed the recipe smile Make sure you keep it refrigerated after making it or it will get moldy quick i was told frown

POTATO CANDY

1/2 cup mashed potatoes
powered sugar
peanut butter

Combine 1/2 cup mashed potatoes and power sugar till is firm enough to roll. The mixture will become very wet; just keep adding powdered sugar. roll out on powdered sugar like noodles. Cover with peanut butter. Roll into jelly roll cut into small pieces. Very rich!

My Dad used to make that. It was his one and only cooking contribution to the holidays. He would use red and green food dye in the potato.
