A modest start, nothing too fancy and quick.

Darkening some lines, while also throwing in some white lines in the middle of darker black lines as I sometimes like to do.

Filled the four inner triangles with black to show off the core better.

Creating some more boxes and setting it up to look better when I copy and paste several together.

Merely the previous one copied and pasted nine times.

Thought I'd make it look more interesting by taking off outer four squares, and throw in some cross angle black bars.

Just jazzing up the side blocks to look more complicated and to set it up for the next doodle where I copy and paste them again.

Here we go, four copies of the previous one and with the alterations on that one make it connect better and look interesting overall.

I did away with the black bars, to reveal a more interesting shape beneath.

I merely doubled the previous altered part and ended up with this, though I wasn't expecting a semi circle in the middle.

Quite a few alterations on this one. Darkened certain parts of the outer squares to make the lines stand out more. Created a framework to connect them better and put white blank triangles on the middle of each side to give it an overall square shape.

Made some more connections, and continued on with the overall theme.

With that continuation, I hallowed out the center and laid down a template, and for the first time used color.

Here is the final result so far. I tried to be quite vivid and exotic with the pattern of the colors. I encapsulated the colors in several types of lines almost as if trying to contain the color core. If you look closely, the lines connected to the outer sides of the square never touch the colors. There are black lines giving the core better definition, but it doesn't touch with the overall pattern giving it that more of an exotic disconnected feel. Plus if you look at the overall shape of the color core, it could fit nicely in the four hallowed out circles. So that might happen later, as I take another look at the overall doodle.

As I suspected, the inner color octagon core matches perfectly with the blank octagons. Strange coincidence.
