My Kindle arrived. They seem to have taken packaging lessons from Apple
Not the prettiest thing, probably at the stage of a 2nd gen iPod
It works well, easy to read. Easy to enlarge print, very good for the decrepit aged like me
Fortunately for people like me that live in a black hole that eats cellular signals, I can turn off the built-in cellular download and download to my Mac, plugin the Kindle and drag and drop. No software needed

They will convert .doc and pdf if mailed to your kindle account
It reads .txt now plus the kindle format. I haven't tried others yet

As for why. I can't deal with normal sized book type anymore. This lets me read the new stuff I would have bought anyway without being limited to sitting at my computer

It was a want it but could survive without it purchase

Yes. Kindle is Fat 32 so my iMac can see it. .doc and some others must go through email

Adobe PDF and EPUB will be present in Bookeen products
Bookeen has signed an agreement with Adobe to license the Adobe Reader Mobile SDK for its products.
The new software engine delivers support for reflowable PDF technology, Adobe’s content protection technology, as well as the EPUB file format, an XML-based eBook standard with broad support from the publishing industry.
The Bookeen products will be compatible with Adobe Digital Edition Desktop application (compatible both on PCs and Macs) enabling users to acquire and download their content from a variety of sources.
Both the PDF and EPUB support will become available through a software release scheduled in quarter 1 2009, more details will follow later.

PDF's can be saved as a .txt file, readable on a Kindle

I know but if they incorperate this in to the kindle it may be possible to read straight pdf's in the kindle without conversion sometime in the future

Also Amazon will do a free conversion of PDF's

I am not knocking the kindle gweep so no need to defend it, all i am saying is that maybe this will trickle down to the kindle in future versions of the kindles firmware This would allow you and other kindle owners to read DRM'ed pdf's in the future as well in the future if this happens which would be nice

Yes. The folders show a folder icon to the left. Likewise, books don't show thumbnails of the book cover, but an icon of the format of the book on the left.

My computer e-book file holds over 11 gigs of books. My kindle is carrying only 60 books
The 11 gigs breaks down to about 4 gigs of individual titles. The rest is copies in multiple formats

You have to toggle a switch to allow it to have a 8,000 page battery life. It's a simple enough switch. But be forewarned. It gets the extra power every night from feeding off the dreams of the innocent. Which is where the wrist leash comes into play. Make sure you wear it while sleeping. It's a notice to the device to leave you alone. Otherwise, it may end up feeding on your dreams.

Work prepares paper packets for our trustees, to be enviromental and save paper and time delivering them the bought 8 of the big kindles. The wireless issue to update them hasn't worked at all so we are still printing paper and wasting time delivering them. But since these were purchased I had a chance to check them out. If the price was lower I'd consider a kindle. They are kinda cool.

My ezreader is on the road to me soon soon

I didn't charge mine for several days while using it. Worked well enough for me. Then again I did get 1GB and you got 2gb. So keep it charging!

I charged it for 3 to 4 hours with the outlet charger

For gweep - So far it's more complicated then my cybook but it also has better screen resolution. It's not like staring at a newspaper like I get with the cybook

Also the rtf file I tried reading only had 2 font size increases but after I converted it to epub I have like 5 font size choices.

Getting used to the button pushing for menus and bookmarks and such is taking some getting used to as the cybook has a better and easier menuing system I think since it only has 1 main button I am used to using for everthing while the ezreader has like 10 buttons Also I keep pushing the menu button to turn the pages instead of the right buttons since again I am used to the cybook.

Overall it's just the right size and feels solid and heavier then the cybook and just plain feels tougher

I got a few books on it so far and plan on reading them soon So I may report more later

Oh one last thing - folder support as well as epub too

So far I like mobi format best with the ezreader It seems the best format to use with my ezreader and even allows you to choose some different fonts while reading a book with it
