Having gained a unwanted view of E/R's, I've noticed that "my" E/R Trauma Center (where the EMT's drag you) patient info computers are wireless. They're on carts rolled from gurney to gurney

In a couple of hospitals our daughter was in, the nurses roll a PC down the hall, they scan a bar code on the medicine, then walk in to the room and scan a patients arm band with a hand scanner, it beeps the info to the pc and then they are approved to give the medicine.

It prevents medicine from being accidentally given to the wrong patient.

In hospital the drug cart had a remote lock and patient drug doses
