What happens after the merger? I haven't heard if they are changing the name. The Delta name, Delta CEO, and Atlanta headquarters will be kept. What this will mean for employees, I don't know. I know people with Northwest and Delta, but I've not heard from either of them. As far as the Delta perspective goes, this will be good for them. They have a strong European presence and an almost nonexistent one in Asia. Northwest has a lot of Asian routes that Delta needs, and they have only a small European network. So, they balance each other out in the international market. My question is what to do about the fleets. Delta is all Boeing. Fleet commonality saves money, and the two airlines only have the 757 in common. It was a shock amongst the aviation nerds that Delta wasn't interested in Boeing's new 787. And now we know why. Northwest has a large amount of them on order. So I imagine that they already had intentions of acquiring those during the merger.

This is a rare, good, nearly complete view of Atlanta from the south. This looks as if it were taken on airport property south of the control tower, which is on the east end near I-75.
