Michael Waltrip Charged After Vehicle Accident Saturday: #55-Michael Waltrip is charged with reckless driving and failure to report an accident after a crash on Molly's Backbone Road in Catawba County. The Highway Patrol says Waltrip was driving about 70 miles per hour in the 55 mile-per-hour zone when he went off the right side of the road in a curve around 1:50 a.m. Saturday. His car then traveled back across the pavement and off the left side of the roadway, sliding sideways and striking a utility pole as it overturned. The car then rolled over and came to a rest on its side.

Troopers said a witness saw Waltrip crawl out of the vehicle and leave the scene. When a trooper went to his home around 2:30 a.m. no one was there, but when he went back at 8 p.m. he found Waltrip, who admitted he'd fallen asleep at the wheel. Waltrip, with scratches on his face and some deep cuts on his finger, spoke with Eyewitness News about the crash.

He said he was on his way home to Sherill's Ford from Charlotte. "I was almost home. I relaxed a little bit and ran off the road," he explained. "I woke up with gravel hitting the car and I tried to correct but it was too late. The seasoned driver says he instinctively got out of his car, and then decided to walk home because he often runs the route and was only a mile away. Tactical error

The Boston Red Sox once sold Babe Ruth so its owner could fund a play. The Portland Trail Blazers once passed on Michael Jordan. The Minnesota Vikings once traded five players and six draft picks for Herschel Walker.

None of those moves were as disastrously bad as the one Teresa Earnhardt made when she thought she could call Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s bluff about leaving his late father's racing team.

Her stepson was serious. Painfully so for DEI.

Thursday at his JR Motorsports headquarters in North Carolina, Earnhardt Jr. announced he is leaving DEI. Whether he is going to drive for his own team or will join an existing competitor is not certain.

What is known is that he'll still be sponsored by Budweiser, still will drive a Chevy and, of course, still be the overwhelmingly most popular and recognizable driver in NASCAR.

Darn Darlington, rain delay, I hope we get this going or we have to watch tomorrow on Mother's Day......oh wait, that would be ok too. I'm not a mother, well not the kind we are celebrating tomorrow.

Race has been delayed another :30min. COPS is on, love that theme song "Bad Boys, Bad Boys whatcha gonna do......."

Race is postponed until 1:00 pm on Mother's Day.

Anyone ever hear what Robby Gordon did to get set down by NASCAR?

All I ever heard said was "it was detrimental to the sport".

During the Busch race in Montreal he refused to go back to his place, didn't leave the track when he was black-flagged and did a burn out as if he won the race.

He was a bad, bad boy.

I could NOT believe Jeff Gordon spun out with two laps to go while leading the race at Watkin's Glen. That let that whiner, Tony Stewart win the race.

If Denny Hamlin had a pit crew that could change tires he might have won two out of the last three races.

I just found out that one of my boyz ... Paul Menard ... is going to be in town next week. They build a HUGE Menards store over in Moorhead, and they're having a grand opening all next week. He's going to be there on Tuesday nite. Guess where I'll be? I'll probably take some flex time and leave work early so I can go get in line. Now I have to scour the town this weekend for something to get for him to sign. Oooooo ... I SO can't wait.

As I mentioned, Paul Menard came to town today. I blogged about my experience. And I got a pic with him. It definitely made my day. I've got more pics to get online tonite, but I wanted to post the pic of me and him. Now ... this is the first time I've posted a pic of me on here ... be nice.
