I think on the west coast you can only use a bow and arrow to kill them , but in certain times of the year and only for a set number of days .
They are a protected fish .

Come to think of it, I've never known of any cases where a gar was aggressive towards a human. They just look mean.

Norther Pike and Walleye have been know to attack and they can grow to good size !

There's a rumor in this town where there's a train tressle that goes over the Cumberland River and a while ago a train full of grain derailed and went into the river and they could only get some of it out. They left one of the grain cars down there. Years later some divers found it and managed to either open the door or something and they found a catfish so huge that it could not even make it through the side door. They think the fish swam in through a small opening and made a home there, eating the grain. It got so big it got stuck.

I dont know if that's a true story or not but I've heard about it from several sources.

Either way, it's a great story.

There are stories like that in the lakes around here , the one I heard was at Cheney Lk. there was a kid that drowned by the damn and the rescue team dived and they came back scared half to death , as they said they seen cat fish as big a huge tree trunks and could swallow a man whole .
Look up Noodeling and see how big some of these cat fish can get just by swimming around and pulling these big fish out of the water by hand . I think I posted a link years ago .

I saw a documentary, about noodling in Oklahoma, on our PBS station. Those people didn't appear to be the brightest bulbs in the box.

I've never heard of a bulldog ant but when we were kids my brother used to take the pincers off the bull ants and attach them to his skin and try to do the same with anyone he could. We have a couple of varieties of green ants that sting badly when they bite, the tropical one is supposed to taste like limes.....if you're desperate enough to eat one.
