When one of my old monitors started going blank and on I checked all the pins and found one was very loose to the point that just tapping all the pins to check them, caused it to break off. Another time something very similar was happening with the monitor messing up, I checked the pins then and that wasn't the problem. Instead it was caused by setting a refresh rate that seemed to cause problems at random.

If the room your in is small and your running the computer 24/7 then heat is an issue harold I know my old monitor crapped out on me when I was running my computer in an enclosed room You may have to move back to the basement if the room is not big enough

Blowing the dust out will help. Tom drilled a few vents in my case and we added a few fans. One of those fans was the fan that came disconnected. You also might want to look into something like this Also I'm sure you know this but make sure the computer doesn't have to many things around it and make sure if its in a desk its vented properly.

I had this problem with my brandi new machine. I'd be working or something when the screen would go black. After spending this amount of money I was not pleased. And yes Amy I too found a dust bunny in the video card. It is now evolving into a new life form. After futsing with it for a couple of days. I called the guy who built it for me. He came over and we tested and putzed around with no luck. e did however install a BIOS patch. That didn't help either. Then I remembered I was doing SETI at home. When They changed to BIONIC I had all kinds of problems. It got so bad I quit. Then this new machine I figured it could handle BIONIC. I down loaded and let seti run. The troubles started. I have now deleted BIONIC and no more problems. Well I have now stored my dream of finding life in outer space on the same shelf as other crushed dreams such as being a film star and growing an extra toe on my left foot.

Blame Lisa. BTW - The various cams will be offline until I do another fresh Windows install on my desktop. I think the quickcam software is messing up the display. My monitor goes blank half the time during startup, and a couple of restores didn't do the trick. So maybe next weekend or the next until I get it sorted out. I don't need the quickcam software anyways. I only need the Windows driver for the new cam, which I think Windows has already. By the way harold, Check the monitor settings to see if someone tampered with your monitors hardware refresh rates I had that same problem when my refresh rates were too high and the only way i could fix it was boot up windows in safe mode and uninstall my video drivers and delete the video drivers directory , then reinstall the newest drivers. If you can boot up in safe mode with no trouble this may be your problem Check the monitor settings as well besides the software settings as some monitors have a refresh rate button and setting it beyond 60 will do what you describe.

2dogs, Just so that you know, you can now grow a nipple on your toe instead of a new toe. I don't have the link but Jay leno has been talking about it all week.
