'Majority ownership' bottom line for Junior

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the kind of guy who apparently likes to leave his audience hanging.

During Thursday's media day at Daytona International Speedway, when asked about his ongoing contract negotiations with Dale Earnhardt Inc., Junior suddenly blurted out that he wants majority ownership of the team founded by his father, promptly got up from his seat and walked away without further comment.

"The main factor is the ownership part," Junior said. "It has nothing to do with money and nothing else really. I would really like my team, I like how things are going. ... The motors are improving, everything is on an upswing. My father has been gone for almost six years now, I want majority ownership."

I can't believe I let Colleen make a new thread for the 2007. Boy, I sure am behind. I still need to update my racing sites. And the Daytona 500 is next weekend already. I've been way too lazy lately.

Anyways ... who all is planning on watching the Bud Shootout tonite? I know I am. I'm already wearing one of my Dale Jr tshirts (I need some new ones too ... maybe I need to go shopping ... LOL) and I've got a 12 pack of Bud Light longneck bottles in my fridge chilling and a bag of Doritos in teh pantry and some Totinos Party Pizzas in the freezer. I'm all set for the race. This has been too long of an off-season. I'm glad the racing is starting.

And as for that article that Colleen posted about Jr wanting majority ownership ... I'm not sure what to think about that yet. I haven't read up on everything yet, so I'm not fully informed. All I know is that I'll be a fan of his no matter where he's at. I just hope he says at DEI.

I almost forgot to mention ... TrackPass is free for the Bud Shootout. I love being able to listen to the drivers (or should I say Dale Jr ) during the race. I just which it was cheaper and more reliable to subscribe to for the entire season.

Not here. We were lucky to watch the super bowl.

Me too. I was watching. It was real good. It's so good to see them back in their seats. And they are just as cute as last season.

One thing to watch this season, they are already complaining about their tires, so look for the excuse should they not do well.

Overview
NASCAR officials use a qualifying draw to determine the qualifying order. The qualifying draw usually take place the morning of qualifying day. Each team sends a representative to draw a number from a spinning ball, starting with the team whose owner is highest in the owner point standings. When every team has drawn, the qualifying order is set.

Michael Waltrip Charged After Vehicle Accident Saturday: #55-Michael Waltrip is charged with reckless driving and failure to report an accident after a crash on Molly's Backbone Road in Catawba County. The Highway Patrol says Waltrip was driving about 70 miles per hour in the 55 mile-per-hour zone when he went off the right side of the road in a curve around 1:50 a.m. Saturday. His car then traveled back across the pavement and off the left side of the roadway, sliding sideways and striking a utility pole as it overturned. The car then rolled over and came to a rest on its side.

Troopers said a witness saw Waltrip crawl out of the vehicle and leave the scene. When a trooper went to his home around 2:30 a.m. no one was there, but when he went back at 8 p.m. he found Waltrip, who admitted he'd fallen asleep at the wheel. Waltrip, with scratches on his face and some deep cuts on his finger, spoke with Eyewitness News about the crash.

He said he was on his way home to Sherill's Ford from Charlotte. "I was almost home. I relaxed a little bit and ran off the road," he explained. "I woke up with gravel hitting the car and I tried to correct but it was too late. The seasoned driver says he instinctively got out of his car, and then decided to walk home because he often runs the route and was only a mile away. Tactical error

The Boston Red Sox once sold Babe Ruth so its owner could fund a play. The Portland Trail Blazers once passed on Michael Jordan. The Minnesota Vikings once traded five players and six draft picks for Herschel Walker.

None of those moves were as disastrously bad as the one Teresa Earnhardt made when she thought she could call Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s bluff about leaving his late father's racing team.

Her stepson was serious. Painfully so for DEI.

Thursday at his JR Motorsports headquarters in North Carolina, Earnhardt Jr. announced he is leaving DEI. Whether he is going to drive for his own team or will join an existing competitor is not certain.

What is known is that he'll still be sponsored by Budweiser, still will drive a Chevy and, of course, still be the overwhelmingly most popular and recognizable driver in NASCAR.

All I ever heard said was "it was detrimental to the sport".

During the Busch race in Montreal he refused to go back to his place, didn't leave the track when he was black-flagged and did a burn out as if he won the race.
