I like cemeteries too-I have never found them scary. Dizzy it is sad that so many died young but that is what happened back then. My Great-great grandmother had a 3 year old child that smothered when he fell in a pile of cotton seed.
When I learned about this I couldn't understand why a 3 year old was around a cotton gin. But back then the gin was near the home and children had more freedom to move around. They didn't have to worry about the things we did with our children. I get that life was different but it's still sad to think of people dying way before their time. The most sad was the family plot where three of the four kids died within 15 months and then 13 months later the mother died. We live a long way from the capital and back then this part of the country would have been absolute wilderness and very little in the way of medical help would have been available so geography was against them before anything else got them.

Dizzy, I know what you mean. We really have it so easy today. Every once in a while I think about the hardships that pioneers had to face. I think that a hard life is what made their character. We take way too much for granted and really don't know what hardship really is compared to what those people you are looking at suffered through.

My hammock is becoming less and less relaxing as days go by.....some hard labour ala the old days is what I need. Chopping wood and imagining somebody's head is the block is really appealing right now. Such Hostility some one needs to feed you more scotches while you waste the time in that hammock

Not really hostility....merely lamenting the fact that I don't have to chop wood anymore cause it was such a good way to get frustrations out.
