When I learned about this I couldn't understand why a 3 year old was around a cotton gin. But back then the gin was near the home and children had more freedom to move around. They didn't have to worry about the things we did with our children.

I get that life was different but it's still sad to think of people dying way before their time. The most sad was the family plot where three of the four kids died within 15 months and then 13 months later the mother died. We live a long way from the capital and back then this part of the country would have been absolute wilderness and very little in the way of medical help would have been available so geography was against them before anything else got them.

Dizzy, I know what you mean. We really have it so easy today. Every once in a while I think about the hardships that pioneers had to face. I think that a hard life is what made their character. We take way too much for granted and really don't know what hardship really is compared to what those people you are looking at suffered through.

Easy doesn't begin to describe our lives in comparison to theirs does it?

Life is never easy. It is just as painful, complicated and unyielding. We are the lucky few and life shouldn't be taken for granted. With time basic hardships shared among many may change for most, and yet some of those same burdens which were so prevalent back then still affect us today. New ones are being created to take the place of those that have fallen to the wayside. We have to deal with each in our own unique way or come together as a community and deal with them that way.

Do I look back and think how about how different and better I have it in comparison? Of course I do and I'm pretty sure many back then looked back at a time in their ancestor's history and were thankful at how good they had it compared to them.

More than likely every generation looks back and is grateful for what they now have. I look back at my life as I was growing up and am grateful that it's easier in a lot of ways now.

My hammock is becoming less and less relaxing as days go by.....some hard labour ala the old days is what I need. Chopping wood and imagining somebody's head is the block is really appealing right now.

Too much scotch before getting in the hammock means my head goes a bit wonky. ;\)
Not really hostility....merely lamenting the fact that I don't have to chop wood anymore cause it was such a good way to get frustrations out. \:\)

I finally got a shot of a cockatoo for Melanie. I don't know what the noisy bird on the other branch is but it was louder than the cockatoo...which is saying a lot. \:\)

I could hardly tell, but it looked like a Sulfur Crested Cockatoo?

I would love to have those in my back yard.

For the past month I have been building a hood for my buddys Chevelle , so the car is now finally complete and we have 120 hours in the hood , as I built a lip around the hole and welded it all in and formed the under side of hood all smoothed out and painted & just bolted it on today \:\)
I did a final polish over the whole car this weekend and Dave and his son finished up a few odds and ends under the hood on the motor to clean the appearance when you pop the hood .
It will be in the Darrell Starbirds Rod & Custom show in 2 weeks \:\)
