The Bel-Air was not much more than 2 miles away from my old house. I had a bumper sticker from them (I can't remember how I got mine) and with it on display when you drove up on Friday nights the driver of the vehicle got in for free.
So...
We all had a sticker and drove alone. Once inside we'd meet up and watch the free movie! I saw Star Wars for the first time there... That must have been '78. The film was out for a while by the time I saw it. I also saw Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry which looks like was about '74. Still one of my favorites. I like 70's road and driver movies and one with a '69 charger can't be all bad!
I used to go with my brother to get out of the house. He had a conversion van and it was great for the drive-in. Watch out the back on the bunk. Once a neighbor friend went along and when the movies were done we couldn't wake my brother up to go home. He had passed out. Too much beer. So we had no choice but to call Mom from the concession stand and see if she could pick us up. She, of course, would. As we walked to the road we heard a car rolling on the rocks and turned to see his van racing past us to the exit... With the back doors still open. We tried to flag him down but he was on his way and wasn't stopping. So we rode home with Mom. Later on he told everyone that he thought we were in the back.
