Hey guys, I am having trouble connecting my new Compaq laptop to wireless internet. I have Comcast Internet connected to a Linksys WRT54G router (wireless G with 4 port switch) my problem is its not detecting a signal for some reason. My pocketPC is detecting a signal, but the laptop isn't, and I have no idea why. does DHCP have to be ON for wireless to work does anyone know? I disabled DHCP awhile back, does that have anything to do with it? I tried enabling DHCP, and it still won't connect

Check all around your case for a button or switch that turns on and off wifi recieving. I think the newer computers do this so as to protect the computers from getting infected and hacked. If all else fails read the manual that came with the computer on how to get it working.

hehe when I find what I'm searching for I am connected to the laptop now I had to go into TCP/IP settings like I had to my wired computers. yeah, the wireless button is just above the keyboard, a little blue light, was on by default, it was the TCP/IP settings, comcast people have to set DNS manually is all.. The HP software in XP Media center is just different then I am used to. and for your information, I did google to find that out. hehe. I had to, the manual didn't say anything about it. I don't like this touchpad mouse and I want a dock, can't hardly see this screen unless I get within 2 inches from the screen, kinda hard for me to do that with the keyboard in the way oh well. I'm going to bring that issue up with my eye doctor to see if they can get me some special glasses so I can see this screen further away, otherwise its really uncomfortable and I look funny doing that. thanks guys.

yeah I've been saving for the last 2 years for one of these, I am so happy One guy over at leoville was saying, he got the same laptop for his mom, and his said it comes with a FREE license for Vista Premium. I looked in my papers, and all over the box, and didn't see no such offer on mine I asked him where he found that at. I hope so, that'd be cool to get a Vista Premium license too out of the deal when it comes out I kept the reciept, so hopefully they'll honor that deal by purchase date.

It's called Express update Bubazoo Read about it at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/expressupgrade.mspx

oh as for screen size, it was orignally set real high yeah, but I turned it down to 1024x768 (I can't stand it down further then that, not enough screen relestate).. I'll try to raise DPI up to see what happens, anything is a help right now... I am thinking it may not be quite enough, but I am sure it will help, thanks I'd use the XP zoom in accessibility, but that thing sucks... There's zoomtext, which blows things up really good, but its like a $700 piece of software.. Normally for my desktop, I use NVIDIA's QuickZoom, under the nview properties. its too bad ATI doesn't have that too...

Changing the dpi to 120 and having your screen mode set to 1024x768 is like having your dpi set to 98 which is normal and setting your screen to 800x600 It increases the text size universally Some people like it but it sometimes affects programs visually that don't know how to deal with the extra dpi.
