I believe that a deep part of Clarice has always been fascinated and a little in love with Hannibal so I don't think that she was objecting too strongly after the initial stages.

I also believe that he loves her in whatever manner a man such as him could. It would never be white picket fences and kids going to soccer but he would kill for her (more than his normal predisposition) and he would probably die for her in the end.

There's my prediction for any future novels....he will put her life before his own in the ultimate way.

He thinks of her like he thinks of Mischa (and that's why I was so excited to read Hannibal Rising, because we finally get to see who Mischa was to him - his whole world as a child) and that's the kind of love he's exhibiting. It's not typical love in any sense, I don't think.

I'm leaning toward the side of the fence that says it is a form of love. Hannibal will not allow himself to be vulnerable; and to truly love someone, you'll have to open yourself up.

I can understand Clarice's attraction, in a way. He's brilliant, elegant, and extremely charming. The danger of loving him could also be quite thrilling.

If Clarice is filling Mischa's void, will Hannibal stop killing for enjoyment? I almost believe that he would.

Make sure you give a good review please, I enjoyed the movie with Phillip Seymour Hoffman but never bothered with the book.

I've gotten through around the first one hundred pages, and I must say that it's good.

I've been reading about Capote, and I want to see the movie. labeling him interesting would be a huge understatement.

Interesting doesn't even begin to cover it. I'll be watching the new movie about him as well.

I was not surprised, in the least, when I read that Harper Lee based Dill on her experiences growing up with Truman. I never knew that such great writers had been friends since childhood.

That's a great book. I read it back in high school. I should reread it to refresh my memory.

Don't worry. The book was in my hands at 12:45 a.m. and I finished by 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Great finish, though I wish she hadn't done what she did on pages 56, 476, 637 and 661.

I'm assuming we got different copies then - our book only went up to 608

Mine is the British version
Warning, Spoiler:
I was most shocked at Hedwig's death. Dobby, I figured was coming cause of all the time they spent creating him as a free elf.
I cried when Remus died even though I've been dreading it for months. Tonks to a small amount cause Lupin/Tonks was the only ship I enjoyed but Lupin was my favourite good character - when he came back with the resurrection stone I couldn't read for a good 10 minutes cause I couldn't see the text \:\(

I knew she'd finish it before me and I wouldn't tell anyone what happens unless I knew they wouldn't read the book. \:D

I finished it, about an hour ago. I guess I am a slow reader, since it took me four days to read it. Rowling did a most marvelous job of ending it and making sure that it had a few good twists. I gave a little sigh when I closed the book: it felt like saying goodbye to friends with whom I had spent a sizable chunk of my life.

Warning, Spoiler:
I hated that Hedwig was killed, too. Lupin's and Tonk's deaths bothered me a little, simply because of the baby. Though, when Harry was named godfather, I figured that they would die.

I felt sick during the time that Harry was walking to, what I assumed was, his death. Books nor movies have ever made me cry, but I was having to struggle to keep a tear or two from leaking out, especially when he asked Lily to stay close to him. That was partially due to the fact that a few of his thoughts of dying have run through my head. I remember the fear and shock of the possibility, but, fortunately, I never reached the point where I made peace with it all.

I think that we all knew how Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny would end up, didn't we? \:\)

After the last two gruesome and depressing books that I've read, this one was most pleasant. I do hate that it's over, though. I've always hated the end of a story that I love. Even though an end must come, it's always hard. Yes, I am a sap. ;\)

Rowling is going to write an encyclopedia (her word) telling more details she didn't put in the book. Here's the article and video of the interview.
