oh SpringChicken thats nothing, u should see where kurlylox and I work... now remember this is a private company, private companies can usually do what they want... We work at KMC (Kendal Manufacturing Company) located in Warsaw, Indiana we both make $8 an hour (6.50 an hour starting, $7 if your a lady sewer, but we have 7 years experience so we make $8. Mexicans start out at $9, and most of them make $12-13 an hour now doing easier jobs then we do) 80% of the employees are illegal immigrants (Mexicans) who can't speak 2 words of English. One guy most reciently, has been with the company for 6 years, lied about his age on the application when he was first hired in, saying he was 18, when he was really 14, was arrested a year ago for underage posession of cocaine. KMC bailed him out of jail, and got him a full pardon off his charges. THen, a year later, he was arrested again for driving while intoxicated, and having a fake drivers license. KMC wanted to bail him out of jail, but he didn't want to owe the owner money out of his check every week, so he asked to be left in jail this time, so they left him in jail and hired 2 more mexicans to take his place during that time.. After he was released, they fired two Americans with 3 years of experience, and put the two mexicans they had just hired in their place, because the americans would miss every other week because of doctors appointments or kids in the hospital for something or other, so they were fired and the mexicans put in their place, while the guy in jail returned to work doing the same job he always did, with a raise on top of it... thats just one guy... another guy, borrowed some money from the owner of the company, to help support his drinking habit, I guess he was running a meth lab out of his house and needed some money for it or something.. The owner gave him the money, and the guy took off, never saw him for 2-3 months after that.. Later, while he was still away, he was arrested for having a meth lab in his house (from the money the owner of the plant had given him to start pretty much) and KMC bailed that guy out of jail... put him right back to work, and didn't have to pay the owner back, got a 20 cent raise for returning from jail.. those are the mexican stories... most of the Americans (kurlylox, I, timothy, donna, and a few others of us) if we go in and ask the owner for money, like for instance donna went in to ask the owner if she could borrow some money to pay off a debt she had on her sons car, she was immediately turned down, yelled at for even asking, 2 days later she was suspended for missing work (without pay), written up, and was threatened never to miss work again or she would be fired. hehe.... NY people have it easy..... oh, and the other thing, I was hired in at 1/2 the pay as everyone else in the plant, because I have a vision problem, and they felt that they were doing me a favor by hiring me, thinking that noone else would, so they assigned me a specific job just for me basically, which is a job that requires more hard labor then the rest of the plant. I have to glue frames onto foam, cut wire, and put on covers to get them ready for upholstery (furniture), ordered to keep up with 2 upholsters who are mexican and can upholster a couch in 10 seconds flat, while it takes me maybe 5 minutes to glue, cut wire for, and cover, that one couch, so as you can immagine I have to really bust my a$$ to keep up for 8 hours of that... while making 1/2 the pay that they do.. I have to lift bundles of frames that weigh 200 lbs each, cut the bundles open with 10 snips, take one off, glue it in 3 parts to a piece of foam, sit it off to the side, cut 6 pieces of wire for it in 6 different sizes (11-1/2, 14, 64, 68, and 72 inch length sizes, that twist around in a circle so you have to hold both ends down while you cut it so u get the right length), then put the cover on and put the wire inside it ready for upholstering, all that just for 1 couch takes me 5 minutes if I am moving at a fast pace listening to fast paced music, the upholsters take 10 seconds to upholster that one couch (they have this upholster gun that shoots out hog rings and can easily upholster it with that in 10 seconds flat, even I can, but my boss doesn't let me because he says its the mexicans job and they don't think I can see well enough to) so they just sit there waiting for me to get the next one ready for them, while my boss is yelling at ME to go faster instead of giving them something else to do in the meantime, or allowing them to help me one of the two, and I'm supposed to do 300 of those a day minimum... all with suffering with a medical condition, that the doctor gave them a note about but just ignored and threw in the trash, that says I have to sit down at my job, so they leave me to work like that in pain all day which makes it difficult for me to stand and walk around without shouting out in pain, much of less do all that all day... but I have to if I want to keep my job, my internet, food on the table, and my mortgage because they won't fire me no matter what I do, they just put more work on yah if you miss or say anything, and u can't quit because if u quit u can't get unemployment or social security or anything. NY ppl sound like they have it easy to me I'm lucky if I bring home $10,000 a year if that...and I have a computer degree.. not that I'm trying to be dramatic or anything, thats just my life, called reality You'd be suprised at all the places around here who require a bachlers degree for $9-$10 an hour jobs, lots and lots of 'em.

State to state labor laws are different but there are many laws that are the same. And discrimination and hiring illegal immigrants is pretty standard. So is retaliation. You have it in your power to help solve the problem.
