I can't handle finishes like the Busch race tonite. I was pacing for the last 20 laps or so. Paul Menard won (woohoo!!! He's one of my boyz). Harvick had me nervous. He brought on that wreck himself. It was just cool that Paul got his first win on his home track (he's from Wisconsin).

I hope this is a sign of good things to come for my other boyz in the Cup race tomorrow.

It was an interesting race for the most part!

I liked seeing 70-year-old James Hylton in the race, even if it was only for a few laps. I remember him from the Cup series in the 60's!

Race Lineup

USG Sheetrock 400 | Chicagoland Speedway

July 9, 2006 | Race 18 of 36

Overview

Once qualifying is over, the field is set by merging the highest ranked 35 teams in the owner standings with the fastest seven cars not in those 35 positions, in the order of their qualifying speeds. The 43rd position is reserved for a former champion, provided he is not already qualified and satisfies the rulebook's criteria. If unused by a former champion, it goes to the next fastest car in qualifying. The lone exception is the Daytona 500, which uses qualifying and two 150-mile races to determine the field.

Kenseth says Gordon intentionally wrecked him
Feud continues, as Gordon 'has no problem moving' Kenseth
By Ryan Smithson, NASCAR.COM
July 9, 2006
09:55 PM EDT (01:55 GMT)

JOLIET, Ill. -- Jeff Gordon didn't get out of his car and shove Matt Kenseth this time. According to Kenseth, Gordon did it while sitting in the driver's seat.

Kenseth was leading the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland with four laps to go when he was hit from behind by Jeff Gordon, sending him spinning onto the backstretch.

Gordon got a tremendous run on Kenseth on Lap 263, but Kenseth was in his way, and he refused to back off, mainly because he said that Kenseth was unfairly blocking him.

"In two laps, he could have passed me clean," Kenseth said. "He just dumped me."

Gordon, who won for the second time in three weeks, was unapologetic, saying his aggressiveness was necessitated by his need to win.

"I drove right in the back of him," Gordon said. "I didn't mean to wreck him, but I didn't mind moving him out of the way. If we can get the win, we are going to go really hard to get that win.

NASCAR officials said the incident was just hard racing.

"A slower car in front of a faster car, and passing traffic in the closing laps of a race, it happens a lot," said NASCAR president Mike Helton. "If we had seen anything there for us to react to, we would have reacted to it already."

Robbie Reiser, Kenseth's crew chief, didn't agree.

"Well, you're trying to lap a racecar and the guy drives in the back of you," Reiser said. "I don't know if I agree with that deal."

It was the second incident of the season between the two, who clashed at Bristol in March. In that race, Kenseth bumped Gordon, and Gordon got out of his car and shoved Kenseth on pit road after the race. That action cost Gordon $10,000 and put him on probation until Aug. 31.

"I got the bad end of it at Bristol, and he got the bad end of it today," Gordon said. "If he had come and shoved me, it would have been a clean slate. Those guys are racers and they understand what happens when you race for a win like that."

The contact on Sunday ruined a possible top-three finish for Kenseth, who led a race-high 112 laps but admittedly didn't have the car to beat Gordon.

That was what ticked Kenseth off. He knew Gordon was going to beat him head-to-head, but he didn't think he would finish the race in the infield care center.

"I know for sure it was intentional, but that is OK," Kenseth said. "We didn't have the car to win. I just could not get it pulled off. We would have run out of fuel anyway."

Kenseth recovered from the spin and was on the track for the last lap, but he tangled with David Stremme and wadded his car against the Turn 1 wall after the checkered flag.

It was the second consecutive year that Kenseth led the most laps at Chicagoland, only to lose the race -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. beat him last year on pit strategy.

Kenseth suggested that Gordon might have been angry over a restart on Lap 237, accusing Gordon of hanging back illegally when the green flag flew.

"On the restart, he was hanging back," Kenseth said. "I have never seen [NASCAR] enforce it."

Gordon said that Kenseth continuously blocked him.

"I wanted to race and I had a run but he blocked me again," Gordon said. "I couldn't believe he was doing that and then I had such a great run that I'm not going to back out."

Questions on NASCAR.com to Brian Vickers:

Q: Where do you think NASCAR should build their next track? -- Several users

Vickers: Without a doubt, I'd say New York and ideally, as close to Manhattan as possible. The site chosen on Staten Island is a good choice, but I just hope things continue to move in a positive direction and the opportunity to race in NYC comes to fruition in the very near future.

Whoohoo, it's getting closer.

Toyota ride with Waltrip on the table for Mayfield
If he takes it, Sadler could move to Evernham's No. 19 Dodge
By David Newton, NASCAR.COM
July 14, 2006
07:45 PM EDT (23:45 GMT)

LOUDON, N.H. -- Jeremy Mayfield has been offered the opportunity to drive for Michael Waltrip Racing next season.

That could open the door for Elliott Sadler to move into Mayfield's No. 19 Evernham Motorsports Dodge as Bob Dillner of SPEED reported during Friday's qualifying for Sunday's race at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Waltrip said an announcement on Mayfield could come within the next week or two.

"It's more the ball's in his court," Waltrip said after qualifying 39th. "We've got a lot going on next week. We're going to Atlanta to do some stuff with UPS and Aaron's.

"Hopefully, it will come together and as soon as it does we'll let the world know. We've got a lot of things we need to accomplish between getting him signed and the 2007 season."

Mayfield, who has a year plus two option years left on his contract at Evernham Motorsports, has expressed frustration with this season in which he is 32nd in points after making the Chase for the Nextel Cup the past two years.

Team owner Ray Evernham left the door open for a change during a news conference last week at Chicagoland Speedway, where Mayfield questioned Evernham's commitment to the No. 19 team.

"All I can tell you is we hear rumors that he's going somewhere, and we thought it would be nice to talk to him if that's the case," Waltrip said of Mayfield, who is also from Waltrip's hometown of Owensboro, Ky. "Now we're waiting for him to call us back and tell us if all of that is going to happen or not."

Mayfield, 37, would join Waltrip and Dale Jarrett at MWR. He was not available for comment after qualifying 37th.

Sadler denied that he's had discussions with Evernham or anybody from Evernham Motorsports about leaving Robert Yates Racing, but admitted there have been discussions with other teams.

"You'd be surprised at how many cars will open up next year," said Sadler, who drives the No. 38 RYR Ford. "I have not made my decision on what I want to do next year. Can I tell you something different in two or three weeks? Maybe.

"Right now, I need to concentrate on what we're doing here. I owe it to my sponsors. I owe it to Robert and Doug [Yates]."

Sadler said he had a 45-minute conversation with Robert Yates on Wednesday at Indianapolis. He said the talk centered around improving an organization that already has lost Jarrett and UPS, and hasn't won but one race in more than a year.

He disputed reports that he had until tomorrow afternoon to let Yates know if he planned to stay.

But Sadler confirmed he has an out in his contract that has two years remaining after this season.

"I don't know anything about a deadline or day," Sadler said. "Right now, I want to focus on that No. 38 car. I really want to get one more win in it."

The face of NASCAR is definitely gonna be different next year. I'm not sure what I think yet. I'll just be happy if my boyz are running well.
