Art's Mother has died at age 90. http://www.blueridgenow.com/article/20081229/ARTICLES/812291008/1081/NEWS02?Title=_No_heading_Jane Bell-Gumaer
Jane Bell-Gumaer, 90, passed away Dec. 23, 2008, at Four Seasons Hospice, Elizabeth House, after a short fight with lung cancer.
Born in Washington, D.C., she lived in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and in Southhold, Long Island, N.Y., before moving to Hendersonville in 1998.
She was a graduate of Syracuse University and was one of the first lady Marines of World War II, obtaining the rank of sergeant and serving at Marine Corp Headquarters and at Camp Lejeune.
A charter resident of Lake Point Landing, she was editor of the in-house newspaper and one of the organizers and operators of the Treasure House Store there.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Lee Holthausen and niece, Jane Bell Hogge of Owingsville, Ky.; her son, Art Bell of Pahrump, Nev. ("Radio Hall of Fame" late-night talk show host); her daughter, Jesse Bell Treff of Asheville; and close, special friend Murray Chidester of Hendersonville.
She was greatly treasured by all who knew her.
No services are planned.
