Does anyone know any (rather updated) movie about the new Thomas Harris book? The last thing I read a couple months ago said it was supposed to be due out tomorrow, but I've seen nothing today to confirm it. I'm about to check on Amazon and see if they have it (even if they do, the library here probably won't get it for a while. Our library SUCKS).

Imdb says it is still being filmed The full name of it is Young Hannibal: Behind the Mask in case you want to google more about it.

Shouldn't the book be out before the movie though??

It depends if the movie was made before the book as well as if the author made deals to hold off the book until the movie comes out, etc.

Sigh. Amazon doesn't have the actual book coming out til March of next year...although the book-on-tape came out today
(and I just realized in my original post I kinda asked about the movie...replace "movie" with "info" and that was my real question I'm an idiot, I am)

I dunno anything about that either, other than it's coming out next year. As I said, I'm an idiot

The book is now on sale, and it is called Hannibal Rising. The excerpt on Amazon doesn't read very well. It looks and sounds like Harris has lost his edge, which is a shame because he once wrote beautifully. My mother's friend is supposed to loan me her copy once she has finished it. I'll write a review when I get to read it.

I think that book is a movie too about the younger days of Hannibal as I have seen it advertised a few times here \:\)

I've been trying to get a hand on a copy - but it's so expensive and the library has 15 people ahead of me reserving it

I'll probably enjoy it even if it's flawed, mainly cause I've been interested in the subject matter ever since I read Hannibal

Hannibal is the only one I've not read (excluding the latest novel). The movie was less than wonderful, and that soured me on reading the book.

The book is better than the movie. I'm still miffed about the ending though (so was everyone else - thus, the movie's ending was changed), but it fully introduced Hannibal's mind palace (a fascinating concept) and just a hint of what happened to him as a child.

I enjoyed the book much more than the movie but I did like the movie as well. One of the few I know. \:D

I have my mother's friends copy of Hannibal Rising. I should be finished with The Kite Runner by tomorrow, and then I'll start Hannibal Rising.

I have absolutely loved it. It was one of the books my aunt's book club read, and she recommended it to me. It has been on my shelf for a couple of years, and I finally decided to read it the other day. Hosseini has painted a wonderfully honest picture of Afghan society along with very genuine characters.

Why didn't you like it?

I read the book. It wasn't my favorite but it was well written.

I finished The Kite Runner, late this afternoon, and I've read the first one hundred pages of Hannibal Rising. So far, I am liking it better than the movie.

I don't know if it was the fact that we had to do endless analysis of every little thing due to school, or whether it was because everybody was hyping it to be THE NEXT BIG THING IN BOOKS when really, it just didn't impress me that much.

I am putting it on the same high pedestal as The Good Earth or To Kill a Mockingbird.

Back to Hannibal Rising...

I finished the book just a few minutes ago, and I must say that it was actually good. The reviewers were a bit too harsh, I think. They all want there to be another Red Dragon or The Silence of the Lambs, but that will never happen again.

It is a great novel for those of us who want to know more about Hannibal Lecter's life (it answered far more questions than the movie), but it is certainly sub-par compared to Thomas Harris' first two Lecter novels. Only curiosity about Lecter's life made me turn the page. I did not feel that wonderful tightness in my chest while I was reading it, and my pulse was never raised. To quote Inspecter Popil, "Vanilla."
