"pretty cool eh? A visually impared licensed driver! ahhh!! hehe!"

as long as it is just the license that is impaired. (Sorry I could not resist). I am glad to hear that something is going right for you. Whatever group you decide to work with will be getting some great help I am sure.

I was a girl scout in my younger years and enjoyed it alot. When our daughter turned age for scouts they had no leader so I took that on for a couple years, until the boss, You know the one, felt it was to much. I regreat it today because it was alot of fun, like caring for girls but being one at the same time. You give alot but you can get so much back from it to.

I agree, that's why I wanted to do it. We are about to pass out our cookies. The girls did really well, I think we will have enough to go camping (or some form of it) this summer.

Until the backstage stuff kicks you...my mother quit Guiding cause the people in charge of the council or whatever were being idiots and gave her unorganized books (she was the treasurer) + expecting her to do the job of 3 people (all when it was tax season and she had her tax rep job too). At that point, she wasn't having any fun so she quit. It's a shame, cause she loved it

I'm happy to hear that. I always enjoyed that time of year. To see their faces and all the enjoyment and thrill of what they have done. I really did love it.

It sounds like your family got a bad deal. I only had to worry about who was getting my paper work when I quit. She was my assistant in brownies so it went well. As far as quiting with junior scouts I got a raw deal from the parents. Lets get rid of our kids and not help out t all. I had one girl to many to transport all of them to activites and no parents would help. That when it all hit the fan for one of the parnts yelling that they cant be the only one helping and mny other nasty statments. No matter how much you do to some people its never enough.

yeah, now if I could only get financial aid, and get a REAL job I'd be happy.

I don't know, driving will open up alot of doors for me though, I was offered a job once taking care of disabled adults at the Cardinal Center (helping them get dressed and off to work, cooking for them, etc) a houseparent basically, but they told me in the interview I needed a valid drivers license so I'm hoping in August I'll be able to get that job.

yeah, its called the Bioptic Driving program for the legally blind.

They have many different options, but the glasses I use are the Beecher Mirage system. I have the 5.5X magnification ones. With the Beecher Mirage, I can see 20/40 at distances of 8 ft (or more) away, although I find I can't focus anything in closer then 20..

In order to pass the eye test, I had to first be evaluated by my eye specialist Dr Windsor, and then he sends off a report to the BMV, and they send me a letter back saying if I'm approved or not. Once I was approved, I took that approval letter down to the BMV, and I took the written test just like everyone else does.

In order to pass that visual test, I had to meet the following criteria:

Visual acuity through the carrier eyewear is no less than 20/200 in one eye.

Visual Acuity through the bioptic telescope is no less than 20/40.

so instead of taking the eye test at the BMV, I take a different eye test at my eye doctors office before they even approve me for the program, so it works out good.

The only reason I'm even able to do this now, is because the Beecher Mirage 5.5X system is now accepted for bioptic driving, it didn't used to be 6 years ago and couldn't pass the eye exam years ago because of that. So I'm lucky I got to do this. It used to be, only 4x telescopes were allowed, and I only had 20/60 with the 4X system, so I was not able to start drivers training before now.

I'm now supposed to take 30 hrs of "behind the wheel" training before I go for my road test, but I'm way beyond that now. I keep having "drifting" and steering and breaking problems.. Its just because I've never driven a car before, and my instructor assures me I can do it, its just going to take practice. I'm just having "new driver" issues right now she says. She thinks part of my drifting problem is I'm not looking far enough down the road, I'm looking at the hood of the car rather then way off down the road like I should be, but she says its just going to take practice to be able to do that and spot signs and all that stuff..

They say they have caps for close distances (like for the computer) but Voc Rehab won't pay for those, and my eye doctor doesn't recommend them anyway for some reason. We tried a new pair of glasses just for the computer, but they were too strong, so I have to go back at some point, but I have to wait until I get a "computer job" before vocational rehabilitation will pay for them... stupid, eh?
