So I've decided to volunteer my time with my co-worker and be an Assistant Brownie Leader. Has anyone ever been one, and Wesley that time in the 70's doesn't count for you....

I'm very excited about this whole thing, I think it's a good thing to share some of my time with little girls who are going to grow up in this strange and violent world. Maybe they will live long enough to enjoy it, and even become productive members of society.

Good luck. Had a daughter that was in scouts. In our case it was just "bad". If I had it to do over I would have nothing to do with them. Bad leadership all the way!

Well, I was a junior leader in Guides (Girl Guides = Girl Scouts) for a while. It was just cause my mother was a leader.
I went through until I got to Pathfinder, then I just dropped it. Dunno why, just did. Had something to do with the endless crafts, I think.
But good job for you, eh? Let us know how it goes

What about Cub Scout and Boy Scouts? Is that bad?

Oh and the rule is 2 adults at all time, and can never leave a little girl with a Male alone,,,,that was some good advise, given my profession....huh?

Yes, they stressed the importance of teamwork and everyone pulling their own weight, in my case that would be a mighty pull.....he, he.

I read how they are having an international group WAGGGS or something like that to include meetings with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in every country. I may need your help on a question or two if I need, are you good with that?

Do you guys have Sparks down there (before Brownies)? I'm just curious, cause I can't remember how the systems differentiate, if at all.

I was a Girl Scout when I was younger. I really enjoyed it. Just don't volunteer to be a 'Cookie Mom' unless you've got some will power ... LOL. My Mom was Cookie Mom one year, and she ended up having to buy extra boxes that we ate.

They call them Daisys here. When I was a Brownie...in the 1970's (shut-up!), they did not exist. It was Brownies, Girl Scouts, and then I don't know. Now it's Daisys, Brownies, Junior Girl Scouts, Cadets/Senior Girl Scouts.

That's funny you should say that, the instructor said the same thing, she said get one of the parents to be the Cookie Mom (they call them Cookie Master, or something like that now). I can't, no place to put them..so I'm lucky.

Hmm. That's different. Up here, it's Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders, Junior Leaders, Senior Leaders (it's basically a course) and then a full blown leader, if you choose.

As Shouse said our daughter was in the scouts. And it was alot of fun but alot of work to.Her instructors just wanted somebody else to do the work. And of course they would take whatever money we collected through sales.
But, its alot of fun if u have good instructors, and people do their jobs. Its a chance for kids who never get to go anywhere, and who don't have brothers and sisters to belong to something, and get to have fun.

Cool, I like that idea too. We won't take the money, they have strict rules on that, I'm sure I'll be spending some of my own, just to give the girls a fun time in whatever we do. I think I want to have them make some Christmas ornaments for the local Food Pantry. Then people donate money and get to put an ornament on the tree. Last year the Food Pantry collected over $61,000 from this fundraiser alone. In a big city like this, I never knew there were so many people who got their food from the pantries around here. It's kind of sad, but happy too, as we can help....

I just found this thread. I was in scouts until I graduated High School. I was actually a First Class Scout, which is like an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouting.

I have been an assistant leader, when I was in college. My mom started out as a cookie chairman. When she was done she was the president of a nine county Girl Scout Council. I'm not a huge font of knowledge, but I'll be glad to share things we did that worked.
