Forgive me, but what is NaNoWriMo and why is she brave for signing up?

National Novel Writing Month is an annual novel writing project that brings together professional and amateur writers from all over the world.

Is the novel your writing based on known characters or are you creating new characters no one knows about for the novel? Will it be sci fi related as well?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I'd like it to be an original piece of fiction, but I've also had a sequel in mind for the Harry Potter drabble I wrote a few months back.

Oh, so it doesn't have to be original? That's a twist

I thought it had to be original, but NaNo doesn't read the stories, so I guess fanfic is fine. At least I've heard of others doing fanfic. The stories get uploaded to be word counted and then deleted immediately, so NaNo don't have to know what you wrote.

If it is uploaded, then deleted, and never read, why bother?

I don't want to sound snappy. ...just curious.

For the challenge. Also, you keep your works. NaNo only counts the words, it's up to the writer to show off the story.

You know someone has to read it since folks can just cut and paste one sentence over and over again a few thousand times or even easier they could write a small basic program to generate 50,000 nonsense words to get the job done , so someone has to proofread them.

That's true. They discourage cheating. It's all up to the honesty of the writer. Like I said, it's a challenge. If people want to cheat, that's up to them, but I think it would defeat the whole purpose. I feel that even if I don't make the 50,000 word count, at least I tried.

Good luck Rogue And I hope you allow others to read it , or at least keep a copy of it so your future children will be able to publish it and make millions

I envy anyone who can write a novel. I am a very good short story writer, but I can't string an idea out long enough for a novel.

Same exact way here Joseph. Only even short stories are too long for me. A short paragraph, page perhaps, 50 thousand words? How someone could write that much, in a month no less is a great thing when considering getting an idea, putting it to paper then all the composition and formating.. That averages out to what, a little over a word a minute for thirty days straight? Hah..

I haven't really written in a year or so. I need to get back to it. I never like my own work. I've only had two things published--and that was in the local paper. A teacher talked me into faxing them one story, and my mother sent them another without my permission.

Now... If I am writing a report of some kind, I can write for ages. My 10th grade American History teacher sent a paper back to me because it was 38 pages. His instructions were to write at least 8 pages. I always thought at least meant minimum. He should've been more specific and said write 8 pages.

The best research project I ever wrote was on human euthanasia. That has been my only piece that I'm still proud of. I won 1st place for it in the county-level Social Science Fair and then 3d in the regional level.

Sounds like me in grade 8. My teacher wanted a creative short story, at least 3 pages on size 12 font, double spaced. I gave him 8, size 10, 1.5 spaced. He was like "WTF?" and I just grinned.

Well, my first day of NaNo is over. I got only 1390 words down, just a few hundred shy of the daily goal of 1667. I cut the tip of my ring finger Halloween night. Typing is a pain.

It's the sequel to that little Harry Potter drabble I wrote a few months ago. It probably won't be fit for other's eyes until I edit after NaNo is over.

6,194/50,000 words.

I don't know why I am here at the moment. I guess I need a breather from writing. I just saw at a NaNo lj that someone has already reached and surpassed 50,000. I am so not close.

*EDIT* I don't know how it happened, but Neville Longbottom became a major character in my story. I like Neville, so it was a pleasant surprise, but I hadn't even thought of putting him in the story.
