The Piano Man is putting more than a few bucks in the jar for Syracuse University.
Six-time Grammy winner Billy Joel is giving $320,000 to Syracuse's Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The upstate school is one of seven East Coast schools chosen by Joel to receive funds as part of his recently launched music education initiative.
Syracuse will use the money to establish four Billy Joel Fellowships in Composition and hopes to enroll the first two students next fall.
Joel is also making grants to the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, New York University, The Juilliard School, State University at Purchase, the New England Conservatory and the Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts.
