Update for Windows Vista (KB947562) isn't installing on my end for some reason I get an error code 8024200D unknown error, trying to install that particular update for the last two weeks straight! Basically the error code you mention means your missing a critical patch that is needed before you install the update. The fix is to either hide that patch in windows updates and see if new ones show up after that or download the full patch at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en

When I formatted that sony laptop and put vista ultimate version on it. It increased in speed I swear by 3 to 4 times. It was taking up to 3 to 5 minutes to boot. After the wipe, it was up and on the desktop in about a minute.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that out of all the computers I've owned, worked on, serviced or converted for my boss, including Vista, Xp and Windows 2k. The ones that come with the pre-loaded software from the manufacturer, are slooooooooooooooow. They have an unimaginable amount of proprietary crap that runs in the background on them. When you wipe all that off, and install just windows, OEM or a retail version, it increases the speed an incredible amount.
They put all that crap on your computer so the end user doesn't have to think too much about what they're doing. There's software that monitors for updates, software that watches for you to plug in a memory stick or camera. Software to monitor for this or that. It's just a waste of recorces and memory, its the ultimate monkey on the back is what it is. Install windows, a clean MS version, update it then install a good antivirus, you'll be impressed by the speed boost you get. Install your preference of programs and office software, games and anything else you choose. You won't have that proprietary stuff running in the background. It makes a difference.

Its worth the price I think. I couldn't figure out what everyone was raging about, Vista being so slow. I bought Vista Ultimate Version, an OEM copy from newegg. Then installed it on a new hddr. It was so much faster than XP in so many ways I couldn't believe it. (with the exception of copying files) Which has since been fixed with SP1.
Then I got my hands on the first Vista computer my boss bought off the shelf at the office store. I was amazed that it took it that long to boot. Considering it was running more up to date hardware than I had in my computer at home. At that time you could get the drivers for xp for almost anything you bought cause the transition had just started. I converted it to xp, and was amazed at how much faster xp ran on the computer than vista.
Now days its hard to find xp drivers for hardware thats been optimized for vista. But I've found the same is true, if you install a clean version of vista. (you can find all the drivers chances are at your manufacturers site, or at the hardware vendors site) It makes an incredible difference in speed and response time.

If you guys want to speed up Vista, just format C:\, then install a clean copy, a real copy that you bought. Not with all the crapware you get from HP or Sony or Dell, etcetera. That crap will slow down a comet slingshoting itself around the sun. right now I'm pissed, because I purchased an upgrade copy of Windows Vista, instead of a full copy, so I can't perform a clean install like we could in XP unless there is a workaround I don't know about. I booted with the Vista disk, just like I always do in XP, and as soon as I typed in the code, it said the code I purchased wouldn't let me install that way, that I could only install OVER a previous version of Windows... oh I was sooo pissed!! I mean, I'd purchase a full copy, cept I already spent $120 on THIS copy! the anytime upgrade should let you upgrade from upgrade to full versions too!

After the wipe, it was up and on the desktop in about a minute. yeah I know it would, but I purchased an upgrade copy, instead of the full version, actually by mistake. I was thinking when I bought it, that the upgrade copy would still let you perform a clean install by prompting you for previous version media like XP does....but noooo!!! *sighs sadly* so the only way I can install the dang OS is OVER a previous OS, while in the previous OS, so u can't boot with the install media the serial number I purchased won't let me. grrrrrr

They said vista is preset to only use 50% of its processor by default to extend its battery life They showed a quick fix to max out the speed at the cost of battery life well yeah...what if your running a desktop? not only that, but what if your running a 64 bit processor? with the 32bit version your still not using all your processing power, and technically they don't sell 32 bit processors anymore. I mean my laptop is still 32bit but I purchased it in late 2007. As much as Vista costs, you'd think the 64 and 32bit versions would be included in the same installation media. Watch the video and see if it helps rather then ask me

If you're working on a laptop make sure you have all the drivers you need before you format it. Or have another computer handy to get them with.
