Ok, here what I don't understand: while I'm glad he was ok, what the h*ll are they teaching kids in Scouts these days? You take a buddy, you take a freakin WHISTLE, and when people on horseback are calling you, you go up and get saved. You don't keep wantering off. Also, where were his survival skills? There was water and food all over. PLUS the first thing he wanted after food etc was to play a video game.

I'm disgusted myself. Glad, yet disgusted.

Like Melanie says,what happened to taken someone with you.Or they should have some kind of tracking device or something.Of course they will scream it cost to much, but what does it cost to go looking for them for days.

From what I read about it the other day , his so called buddy , left him to go eat .
Plus you always mark areas to know from where you came , so you can find your way back. (basics)
I was never a scout , but if you grow up in the MT.s you learn the basics of survival , I used to hike and camp with 3 brothers in Oregon , we were dropped off by their dad , and hiked a week on the oregon trail, we were only 14-16 yo. , also camped at the base of Mt, Jefferson for 10 days , with out adult supervision, and when your 70 miles from no where , you learn not to do stupid things, man I miss those times.

Things like this will only quicken the passing of the legislation for allowing those damned RFID tags and then it will be the end.

That's my prediciton. You will get one big senator with lots of pull and influence who is hell bent on getting us all tagged. Then either a legitimate or a staged abduction/lost child will happen and that senator will be in the media saying, "If we had RFID tags on her then we could find her quickly with no problems."

Then they'll find the kid dead and he'll say, "We could've saved her if we only had RFID tags on her." Then it will pass through the senate like a greasy hairball through a cat and then all children will be required to be tagged. Then little by little the rest of us, either willingly or unknowingly, get tagged too. Then the government will be able to track us everywhere we go. Then our buying abilities will be linked directly to this tag and we won't be able to buy or sell unless we're tagged.

Sorry for the rant but things like this little goob getting lost only makes me wait to hear in the news someone pushing for this damned tagging.

You don't need tags when you teach kids how to avoid this crap. Both my girls at age 5 knew to go for the 'nads and scream & run if they were attacked, and if they got lost STOP walking and blow their whistles. They also knew to ask for help on the street and by God I KNEW where they were.

Heh, when Cat was really tiny, her teacher asked her what she would do if a stranger grabbed her, and she said "Kick him in the baws and go tell my Mom". Some guy was play-fighting with me not long after and she racked him good. As soon as he could speak he told me she was gonna always be safe.

I agree Wesley. When it comes everyone will get on the band wagon and say how wonderful it is. How we really need to do it. How it will solve all our problems. Then a few years later people will start to wake up and then it will be too late. Sound familiar? Can you say Iraq.
It always amazes me how easily we are lead by a small number of stupid people. That makes us a bunch of sheep too lazy to stand up and say no.

I really am glad the scout is ok. But that scout leader has no business taking kids out if he didn't train them now to NOT get lost.

Wesley, I'm not sure everyone would get low-jacked, but then again I didn't think they'd put magnetic strips in our money (making it easy for our wallets to be scanned...). I am glad they low-jack babies in the hospital, though.

There is a conspiracy theory that says that those plastic strips in our bills are magnetically coded and that when you pass through security at airports it can scan how much money you are leaving with and how much you are coming back with.
I don't think having a paperless money system is going to be a good idea at all, especially if it is linked with an RFID tag. Not only will the gov be able to track our every movement but they will be able to see every single thing we buy. They've also had ideas of linking advertising billboards to these RFID tags. Based on your buying habits the billboards would change ads when you come within a certain proximity of them and display ads taylor made to you.
RFID tags are the worst thing that could happen to this country and things like these kids disappearing or the Runaway Bride costing law enforcement agencies $60,000 will only quicken its arrival.

Augh! Don't get me STARTED on the runaway bride! She is a moron. Period. Guess that's all you need to get on tv and a half a mill for a book deal.

I saw the interview with her last night and I agree. She is a loony idiot. Anyone who's eyes bug out that much has got a screw loose. To say that she doesn't know why she did that and to admit that she has had a lifelong battle with serious depression and then to say that "it's not good to put labels on it" shows that she KNOWS she has a mental problem and has done NOTHING about it for her whole life. People like this make me sick.

Most people who are mentally ill never get help as they tend to think that they would be looked on differently when a doctor diagnoses them as mentally ill.

How many jokes have you heard about crazy people, tin foil hats, etc That is the kind of stereotyping that makes alot of mentally ill folks plain crazy <Pun intended>

I agree that her eyes freak me out as they remind me of an animals eyes that are caught in a persons headlights late at night and do agree that she needs help.
