I just got a chance to watch Firefly and.. It's very interesting. Not sure why I waited so long to see it, I'm going to go try to watch it again to see if I like it as much as I did the first time. The movie Serenity is also coming out September 30, 2005, and comic books are supposed to help the transition from the television show to the movie. Then there is Scifi who is picking up Firefly and rearing the shows, starting July 22, in their entirety and in the order Joss intended. Thus four hours on Scifi Friday. Firefly at 7, Stargate SG-1 at 8, Stargate Atlantis at 9 and Battlestar Galactica at 10. For more info check out: http://fireflyfans.net/

You would like that one wouldn't you. I got to admit that when she started quoting her "bible" I was like, damn.. Where can I get a copy of that one. The next episode, "Out of Gas" is pretty good. On the Serenity part 1/2, when the captain tricks the doctor and Joss tricks us into believing the maintenance girl is dead. The music in the background, the slowing of time and just the way he did it. Was so great I couldn't stop laughing when the truth was revealed.

No, I mean I have only got through half the series so far There is stuff on the dvd, besides the 4 un-aired shows I mentioned earlier.
They put all the extra stuff on dvd 4 3 beind the scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, Alan Tudyk's audition, Joss singing the "Firefly" theme, and a gag reel
Besides the 4 unaired episodes I have yet to watch, I have yet to watch out of gas, ariel, and war stories as well as the extra stuff but I am pacing myself

I didn't pace myself and watched it all in three nights. Did you watch any of the shows with Joss commentary? I can't wait to see how it looks. I had a 352x216 version, so the dvd shall be great. Plus all those extra features. How much did you pay for the dvd?

I thought Earth 2 was a great show at first. It did seem that the writers or producers or who ever made decisions couldn't decide what subplots to follow. The doctor was evil, she was good, she was a victum of the powers behind the whole thing. Then there were the inhabitants of the planet. They were dangerious, helpful, playful?
I enjoyed the show I just feel if they would of picked and stayed with a storyline it would of lasted longer.

I kind of agree I loved when they used that bomb or device that turned all the immediate vicinity to stone as it was a device I never heard of before And it made me feel sorry for the creatures of the planet I never watched the entire series, but will be ordering it soon to see what I missed as I know I missed alot of it as I watched some episodes on the scifi channel that I know were new to me One series I would love to have on dvd is dark skies but so far no one has put it on sale yet at amazon That series rocked I loved how they tied historical figures in to the series like Sagan, the Beatles, and the whole Kennedy clan

This show rocks! Never thought I'd see a good space/western. I like it a lot. Watched the whole first episode, and the second this morning.

Hey Kris, I noticed twit 17 is out but I can't get it until leo's servers come back up , so I was looking through the show notes to see what they talked about and was surprised to see it say "Dvorak loves the Firefly DVD - wait 'til Serenity!" I never thought of him as a sci-fi guy so I had to pass it on I hope he fixed his mic trouble in this episode so I hear more of him

I've only got up to about twit show 10. I'll have to get that one and build up a cache of shows. Dvorak likes Firefly? That just doesn't seem right. Is the world coming to an end or something? Perhaps it's the western theme to it that he likes, in which case. Dvorak knows how a dvd works?

I watched the first episode, Serenity, last night and I really liked it. The three main things I like about the way it was filmed is the use of fade outs and fade ins to convey emotion, the kind of music that is used during these scenes (stringed instruments) and how so NOT Sci-fi it makes it sound, and the special effects and their use of virtual cameras. They make it really seem as if a camera is panning and zooming in trying to catch the action while the camera goes out of focus and regains focus again. I really like quick zoom in on something far in the distance, bringing it very close to the screen and losing focus while doing so. Kinda like what they did on Star Wars Ep2. It makes it seem more real for some reason.
I also liked the extreem blend of personalities on the ship. A rough and tough captain who doesn't look rough and tough. A prostitute. An innocent young woman who's the mechaninc. A preacher. An assassin. A genius doctor and his even more genius, yet autistic sister. A very strange and conflicting blend. I can see this series forcing each character to deal with the complexities of the personalities around each of them and trying to find ways of forgiving in them what they find offensive while also trying to fit into the whole mesh as well as possible. Especially the preacher and the prostitute and the rough and tough captain. I'm off to watch some more.

I really like the prostitue aka Companion character. And Kahla. She is too damned cute. I like how Kahla, the innocent girl looks up to the Companion and asks her questions about her "clientel". Interesting dynamic.
I finished watching disc 1 and I really like the interesting blends Joss uses. Sci-fi meets Old West with a blend of Chineese dialect. I wonder why they all have Chineese sayings mixed in with their speach.

Cool! That explains alot. I noticed that logo on the gun in the pilot as belonging to the Aliens movies and the armour of the troops in Train Job as being similar to Starship Troopers. That's funny. Lots of homages to his inspirations, I see.
I love the line from Train Job when he gets into the fight with the pro Aliance guy, "You don't appear to be burdoned with an over-abundance of education." Great lines.

I like Jayne too. I can see something occuring between him and the captain. I loved it when he was drugged and his mouth was hanging down to one side while he was trying to shoot some goons.

I am really liking this series so far and am regretting having to be half way to the point where there won't be any more. I really like the Jayne character, especially in Jaynestown. He has a soft side and a wicked sense of humor despite being so damned brash. I really liked that episode because of the parralles between the town believing Jayne's criminal deeds to be heroic despite having the truth of what really happened being told to them by Jayne himself with the parrallel between the Shepard and River. River goes about "Fixing" the Shepard's Bible because she says it's broken. Too many contradictions. "Doesn't make sense" she keeps saying. Shepard explains to her that you can't fix faith. The point is not in having the Bible make sense and be correct. The point is to take the lessons laid out before you and believing in its power to change your life. The townsfolk take the Jayne legend for something that it wasn't and used it to inspire them into standing up for their rights and it gave them strength. One youngster even sacrificed his life to protect the legend even when Jayne himself told the entire town that it was nothing but a lie. To them, it doesn't matter. It gave them strength and something to believe in so to hell with the truth. I really liked the end when Jayne and the captain were talking about it and Jayne kept saying the same thing River said about the stories in the Bible. "It just doesn't make any sense." I am also REALLY liking the Companion. She is very graceful, gentle, wise, noble, spiritual and very beauitful. But she has an essence about her that is indescribable. But the thing that I find interesting is that she came by all of this through a lifetime of training and schooling. And yet Kayhla has all of these traits and one that even the companion doesn't have...Innocence. Kayhla's beauty is all natural and comes from within, not from training and her innocence adds to that beauty making her more desirable than the companion, although she ain't bad herself. I just kinda see, when the Companion and Kayhla are talking with each other that the Companion is looking at her with an eye of jealousy as to how natural it comes to her and how she's had to work so hard at it and Kayhla looks at her and wishes to be more like her. She doesn't seem to realize that she is already more than her. I am VERY impressed with the acting in all of this because they ALL bring out these impressions in their acting of the parts.

When you are done watching the TV series....get the DVD Serenity. You find out why River is like she is and why the Alliance is so eager to recapture/kill her.
Never figured out the preacher man though. He's past remains a mystery. I know he must of been big in the Alliance.

According to the show, yeah. So far no explanation. But he does have an ID card that allows him premium medical care in any Alliance facility and he didn't tell the captain what he was before.
