I got the last of my Christmas/Father's Day stuff and have set up shop. I have a new DVD Recorder and have been going to town archiving all of my Mystery Science Theatre from the VHS tapes I made all those years ago. I don't know how many episodes I actually have and some of these tapes have never been played after they were recorded. So far I have 11 episodes burnt.

You should see some of the commercials! How about a game called Burn Cycle, Prodigy, AOL, or Windows 95!

Ok... Part of my extra Christmas bonus (ahem) went into buying more blanks and the project was supposed to be on again. The problem is the recorder is shutting down after a few hours running like it's overheating. Right now the lid is off and all the heat shields are warm but not fry an egg mode No real dust either. Hmm....

Check your vcr belts - Alot of times on older machines when the belts get old it will start shutting off the vcr. Also check the tapes, as tapes that are too tight will do this as well on older vcrs.

If you can rewind a tape and forward fast it without playing it then I would check the belts. Usally if you cant rewind a tape and it shuts off while rewinding, its time to buy a new vcr or get a tape rewinder

Oh I'm sorry. The VCR is fine, it's the DVD recorder that's shutting down.

I've been playing a DVD over and over again and it keeps humming along. Apparently only when it records does it fail. And of course it ruins a disk when it does.

Is the dvd recorder in a computer or one of those stand alone models? The reason I ask is if it is in a computer, set your burn speed to a lower setting and try burning it again. Also make sure the burn speed matches the dvd media your recording with or falls below it if it keeps making coasters.

If it is in a regular standalone dvd recorder then maybe the brand of dvd recordable media your using is incompatible and you should try another brand. The dvd recorder manual should tell you what kind of dvd r's to record with.

Make sure your dvd software is up to date as well if your using a computer.

If your using a computer and have 2 cd drives chained together, make sure you have one set to master and one to slave.

I have hours and hours and hours of MST3K tapes and I now have a DVD recorder. I should put them all on DVD. I could get 4 per disc and retain decent quality.

It's a stand alone model from Sanyo. It gives no warning. I start a recording session and the next thing I know the record light is still on but the unit itself is off and the clock is back on the display. I have to turn it on again to get the display back on the counter. But it will play all day long.

These disks are the same that I've been using so far without problems. I have a pile of stuff recorded before this problem started and never had a failed disk 'till now.
