My Polly is in heat. She's driving me absolutely nuts!! I didn't think they could be in heat for this long, but she's been screaming for days! I'm tempted to let her go mingle with the boy cat down the road so she shuts up ahhh!

I can understand that. But the world does not need more kittens. There are too many of them suffering and being killed everyday.

I wouldn't really let her out. If we do breed her it will be simply for the purpose of making farm cats. We would love to adopt some cats, but its so hard to adopt a cat, you'd think they 'prefer' to kill them at those shelters. We haven't gotten any parts of her snipped or chopped or removed mainly because well... they tend to be meaner when you do that. It's not impossible to keep them inside, if they're properly disiplined. She was really sick at the time that she should have gotten 'fixed' (she was a farm cat, had mites and fleas and she was anemic.) It's a pain to trim her nails, because of her 6 toes on each foot, but it's not that hard. Thanks to her being intact she's the nicest kitten I've ever owned.

This is going to sound strange but here goes. The vet says to get an old themometer so you can throw it away when finished. Take the themometer warm it not too hot that it will burn and insert. You may have to do this a few times. The vet says a female will not go out of heat until she has been with a male cat. This is to sike her out and think she has.

Wow!! That's almost too much information there. I don't want to think that much about it.

I couldn't do it either. I took her to my friend the vet and he did it. Then I got her fixed. That was the lesser of the three evils for me. They can have up to 5 liters a year. It depends on how long the days are. Something about the sun. I couldn't handle taking her every month to get that done. If you want barn cats check with your local humane society and vets. They usually want people to take the wild cats that are unadoptable so they have room for the adoptable. Just tell them you will put food out every so often. My daughter and I help every so often at our local shelters and that is what they do and we have fostered several that way. Please don't think I am strange because of my first statement some people do that all the time instead of fixing them. I couldn't I thought it was sick that is why MJ got fixed.

Well, we gave in and did it. I wanted some sleep dammit! She rolled around a couple hundred times and purred freakishly loud, and now she's upstairs passed out on the bed. I think it worked!

Eh, it didn't work. I'm starting to think shes just grumpy, rather than in heat. I don't really know though. Maybe I missed the hole? (sorry, won't go into any more detail.) When you're doing something you don't want to do to begin with, it's easy to mess up haha.

Well, she sure seemed to like it. I think it's time to get her a 'teaser tom'. A lot of cats are scared of her though :/ I think it has something to do with the thumbs haha.

Here I go again speaking before I think. If she is putting her butt up in the air and her front half on the floor and hollaring then she is in heat and it may take more than once. But if she isn't doing that then she isn't. I know you people think I am crazy but it worked on my kitty. It is a hollar that will make you want to choke her to shut her up.

Maybe the poor kitty is into auto-asphyxia. :P

I'm thinking of trying all of this on my Timmy even though he's a boy and he's not in heat. :P

I think she's just got an attitude problem. That and her growth spurts have been coinciding with her being in heat, so maybe shes just being a grouch? Her um, female parts are still swollen which leads me to believe she's still in heat but, I dunno. I'm not an expert on female cats. :P Hell, I'm not very good with female humans and I am one!

Oh she's tons better now. It was so hard on her even that she wont stop sleeping now lol.

She's about 1 year old now. Shes just a boring grey stripe with a white chest and belly cat.

She is doing so much better now. I think she layed there and purred at me for an hour straight this morning.

Yayyyy new obnoxious kitties!! See??? It's a little boy and a little girl we got from down the street. We just brought the little boy out to hubby's parents house, they were down to 3 cats, only one female. Eventually we'll bring the girl out but she's just so cuuuuute!

I've got a new puppy. My lab, Missy, has grown up with me (I got her when I was 4). Neither one of us is used to puppies anymore. It's definately different than having Missy, who's almost 14.

I love kittens, though. They're much cuter and less destructive.

I went to spend a few days with one of my daughters,and she watched her cat have 2 kittens, it had 3 but one didn't make it.It was the first time she had ever seen anything be born.So she was alittle grossed out by the whole miracle thing.
