Our home team just kicked the butts of the reigning NRL Premiers on our own turf.
The game was hard and the score will be hard for southerners to swallow.
I know you guys don`t know what the hell I`m talking about but I just had to share. Rugby League is the game and the North Queensland Cowboys just had their first ever Friday night game AND it was televised so the rest of the country got to see us kick a**. The so called miracle player from the Bulldogs was sitting on the bench sweating before he put a foot onto the field....the tropical heat has to be good for something. hehehe
I`m a little giddy as you may be able to tell.

Not to change the subject of this thread but with the car people going retro with the new cars and bring back older models why not the pinto. Let it ride again! *he*he*

There aren`t any Sydney pintos I`m sorry to tell you.
I can`t remember every having the Pintos in Australia, I think they were an American model. The retro cars are a bit strange I think, it`s like someone had a dream on night and voila we have this fantasy piece of crap on the streets. LOL

Sports logos are big business now. They sell one sleeve to a company and then another sleeve to a different one and then the front and back of the jerseys are different sponsors again.
I must say the Toyota Cowboys sounds better than the KFC Cowboys as they were in the early days.

Well our beloved team has done it again and won their match with much skill and grace. We beat the Newcastle Knights 52-18.
The flag is still flying high and proud out the front of our house.
A of this morning we are in the number three spot on the points ladder. Tomorrow we may move down a spot after they work out today`s games. Only gotta be top 8 to make the finals round though.

Well I haven`t updated my Cowboys thread so I thought I might as well do it before I get too dejected.
Until last weekend we were sitting at the top of the ladder but then we got our butts kicked last weekend and again tonight. We dropped to fifth and after the rest of this weekend`s games we`ll be lucky to hold that spot.
Personally I`m blaming the fact that my supporter`s flag was stolen from the front of my house a couple of weeks ago and I haven`t had the spare cash to replace it. Just that little blip has put them off their game.
I won`t change sides because of their slump but I am disappointed.

QUEENSLANDER!!!!!!
It was great, you should have seen it. THE best 80 minutes of football I think I`ve ever seen.
State of Origin is always great but tonight we were just on fire and beat New South Wales 24 -20.
Origin is a three game series held once a year with each game three weeks apart. The players then have to play some of their normal club games in between.
Of a team of 16 players 6 were Cowboys players and man did they make their presence felt. It was magic I tell you.
And apart from all of that, not one injury so we have a full team to kick some Bulldog butt on friday night.
This young man in the mighty maroon jersey is not a Cowboy player but was just brilliant and I picked the photo because it typified a well played game.
I`m floating I tell you.

These are two of my favourite Cowboys. Matty scored the match saving try tonight and Carl is an almost family member of mine.

I watched a little of your football today on our espn network. Didn't understand it but I watched. Carlton vs. Melborn. Then they showed highlights. meaning who hit who, and howmany games they were suspended for the hit.

It reminded me a little of english rugby. I played a little rugby on a pub team in Bicester when I was there the first time. The way we played was a bunch of drunks trying to kill the guy with the ball.

Carlton tipped me to the fact that you were watching AFL, which is what those of us in the know call aerial ping pong. In Queensland the majority of us follow Rugby League, which is real men going hard and trying to kill the guy with the ball. Not really but compared to AFL it seems that way. Mark always says that AFL players know all about the best handbags because if a fight breaks out they need to have the good ones to swing at the opposition.
My guess is that you played Rubgy Union which makes very little sense to me but has quite a big following here. After the World Cup was played here last year lots of people got into it in a bigger way. We even went to a match but still didn`t understand it.
If you have cable that airs the State Of Origin match in just over two weeks try and watch that game. It is THE best Rugby League you will see. It takes all of the best players from the NRL and we have those from Queensland and New South Wales facing off against each other.

It`s been a while, but time to update the Cowboys thread. We got home in time to watch the second half of the second semi finals match and we won.
We only have one game to play and win and we are in the grand final. I`m not going to get too excited yet but I think we`ll come to the field ready to kick some southern butt.

Well tomorrow is GRAND FINAL day for our boys and the town has been crazy this week. The excitement is huge and the atmosphere is friendly and hopeful.
The front page of our paper has had the team on it every day, to the point that non football fans are complaining. Too bad I say. We love it.
Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me that the Cowboys kick the Tigers` butts.

Just cause I know you`re all hanging out to hear the result.
We lost. Not shamefully but still a loss. We still had a hope until the last 10 minutes but they were too good for us.
Being the second best team in the country is still pretty damn good though. 13 other teams didn`t make it as far as we did and we will do it next year.
