Do you love animals?
If so, you may already know that each year our nation's animal shelters care for millions of homeless cats, dogs and other animals awaiting adoption. Tragically, many of these loving pets never find good homes and are euthanized. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of feral (untamed) and stray cats struggle to survive outdoors. While many of these cats are fortunate enough to live in managed colonies with kind human caretakers, most are not and risk suffering an early death from starvation, exposure, being struck by cars, human cruelty, and/or disease.
Spaying or neutering companion animals and feral cats is the key to improving this situation and helping these animals live longer, happier, and healthier lives. Spaying or neutering is an act of love, for our pets and for our communities.
Spay Day USA is the nation's foremost, annual campaign encouraging all Americans to take action on this important issue. The 12th annual Spay Day USA will be observed on February 28, 2006.
Organized by the Doris Day Animal Foundation, Spay Day USA mobilizes veterinarians, animal shelter and rescue professionals, educators, law enforcement officers, and animal-lovers of all types across virtually all 50 United States as well as several U. S. territories. These volunteer coalitions come together to organize many types of events that promote the importance of spay/neuter—from low-cost spay/neuter clinics to educational programs in schools and libraries to community fund-drives for spay/neuter services at local animal shelters.
